  • Publication number: 20150079362
Abstract: Three dimensional printed objects having surface coatings, such as a hydrophobic coating or metalized surface, 3D printed substrates having an outer surface that can be tuned by application of such a coating, and methods for the fabrication of such objects and substrates are described. A surface initiator is incorporated into the 3D substrate during layer-by-layer printing, and the surface coated by surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP).

  • Patent number: 8571373
Abstract: An active device for dynamic control of lightwave transmission properties has at least one photonic crystal waveguide that has anti-reflection photonic crystal waveguides with gradually changed group refractive indices at both input and output side. An alternating voltage or current signal applied to two electrically conductive regions changes the refractive indices of the photonic crystal materials, introducing a certain degree of blue-shift or red-shift of the transmission spectrum of the photonic crystal waveguide. The output lightwave with frequency close to the band-edge of the photonic crystal waveguide is controlled by the input electric signal. Devices having one or more such active photonic crystal waveguides may be utilized as an electro-optic modulator, an optical switch, or a tunable optical filter.

  • Patent number: 8186525
Abstract: An anti-creep mechanism for coupler includes a lower lockpin rod, a coupler shank and a rotation shaft. The rotation shaft is disposed in an elongate mounting hole of the lower lockpin rod and a circular mounting hole of the coupler shank so that the lower lockpin rod and the coupler shank are hinged together. A boss is axially disposed on an upper surface of the rotation shaft, and a groove is axially provided in a wall of the mounting hole of the coupler shank above the rotation shaft to receive the boss of the rotation shaft. The rotation shaft is axially movable relative to the lower lockpin rod and the coupler shank and has two operating positions. When the rotation shaft is moved to the first operating position, an inner end portion of the boss is positioned in the elongate mounting hole of the lower lockpin rod, and a top wall of this elongate mounting hole abuts against the boss.

  • Publication number: 20120028253
Abstract: A method for amplifying oligonucleotide in vitro by polymerase-endonuclease chain reaction (PECR) which utilizes a single-stranded DNA probe containing repeat sequences, extends a target oligonucleotide by a thermostable DNA polymerase, cleaves extended products with a thermostable endonuclease, and amplifies target oligonucleotide by thermocycling. In PECR, a specific oligonucleotide is exponentially amplified using one single probe instead of a pair of primers, and the reaction is precisely controlled by thermal cycles whose parameters are flexibly adjustable according to length, sequence, melting temperature and initial amount of the target oligonucleotide. Amplification speed depends totally on initial amount of target oligonucleotide present in the reaction system. The method can be used to amplify specific small nucleic acids, such as oligonucleotides and microRNAs, and further conduct quantitative analysis.
