  • Publication number: 20100199236
Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention provides a system that performs an RLC extraction for a three-dimensional integrated circuit (3D-IC) die. During operation, the system receives a 3D-IC die description. The system then transforms the 3D-IC die description into a set of 2D-IC die descriptions, wherein the transform maintains equivalency between the set of 2D-IC die descriptions and the 3D-IC die description. Next, for each 2D-IC die description in the set of 2D-IC die descriptions, the system performs an electrical property extraction using a 2D-IC extraction tool to obtain a 2D-IC RLC netlist file. The system then combines the set of 2D-IC RLC netlist files for the set of 2D-IC die descriptions to form an RLC netlist file for the 3D-IC die description.

  • Publication number: 20100131016
Abstract: A system for performing a less invasive surgical procedure and, in particular, devices and methods for spinal fixation. The system comprises dilation tool(s), at least one working/insertion cannula, a plurality of screws, at least one fixation rod for connecting the screws, and a rod inserter. The dilation tool(s) may be used to dilate an incision made in a patient to form an opening. Thereafter, a drill may be used to form holes in the vertebrae. An insertion cannula may be attached to a screw and inserted into the opening. The screws may be polyaxial screws and may be inserted into the vertebrae using a screwdriver. An operator may then move the insertion cannula to manipulate a head portions of the screws such that the head portions may be aligned to receive a fixation rod. A rod inserter may be used to insert a fixation rod into the head portions. After the fixation rod is in place, it may be locked to the screws, thereby fixing the system in place on the spine.

  • Patent number: 7595956
Abstract: A microactuator reference limit used to prevent over-accumulation of internal states may be set based on the microactuator's mechanical properties and is applied at the reference point to the microactuator servo subsystem. A microactuator variable input limit to prevent over-accumulation of internal states may be dynamically determined based on the difference between a signal corresponding to the maximum physical stroke of the microactuator and an estimated motion of the microactuator. Either configuration of servo system automatically ensures that all the internal states of the microactuator controller will not over-react and cause excessive overshoot, sluggish response, and/or saturation.

Abstract: A servo system for a hard disk drive comprising a first actuator, a second actuator, a head, and a disk on which is formed a plurality of tracks containing servo data. The servo system comprises a first stimulus, a second stimulus, and a calibration system. The first stimulus causes the first actuator to move the head to at least two calibration tracks on the disk. The second stimulus causes the second actuator to move the head relative to the at least two calibration tracks. The calibration system generates a calibration factor based on the second calibration signal and the movement of the second actuator relative to each of the at least two calibration tracks.

  • Patent number: 7400467
Abstract: Methods of controlling reading/writing by a read/write head of a disk drive include generating a position error signal indicative of a displacement of the read/write head from a desired radial location on a surface of a data storage disk. A control signal for moving the read/write head to the desired location is calculated responsive to the position error signal. Writing by the read/write head is inhibited responsive to the control signal exceeding a control signal threshold value. A disk drive includes a controller configured to generate a position error signal indicative of a displacement of a read/write head from a desired location on a surface of a disk, and to generate a control signal for moving the read/write head to the desired location. The controller is further configured to inhibit writing by the read/write head responsive to a predictive metric that is predictive of the position error signal exceeding a threshold.

  • Patent number: 7362534
Abstract: A disk drive includes a rotatable storage disk, an actuator motor, a slider that magnetically interacts with the storage disk, and a drive circuitry. A portion of the slider moves between a first position wherein the slider does not contact the storage disk and a second position wherein the slider contacts the storage disk. The drive circuitry can detect when the position of the slider changes between these positions. In one embodiment, the drive circuitry monitors off-track movement of the slider to detect when the slider has moved between these positions. The drive circuitry can also current that is directed to the actuator motor that is used to compensate for off-track movement to detect when the slider moves between these positions. In yet another embodiment, the drive circuitry monitors a rotational velocity of the storage disk to detect approximately when the slider moves between these positions.
