  • Publication number: 20190150030
Abstract: Some embodiments described herein provide a method for transmitting a preamble in accordance with a wireless local area network communication protocol. In some embodiments, a data frame may be obtained for transmission including a preamble compliant with the wireless local area network communication protocol. It may be determined that the preamble includes a first preamble portion that spans multiple symbol durations and a second preamble portion that spans a single symbol duration. The first preamble portion via beamforming may be transmitted based on a first beamforming matrix. When a transmission mode of the second preamble portion is beamforming, a second beamforming matrix may be generated based on the first beamforming matrix, each tone for the second preamble portion may be calculated based on the second beamforming matrix. • Publication number: 20190068418
Abstract: A boundary within a last orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) symbol of a PHY data unit is determined. Pre-encoder padding bits are added to a set of information bits to generate a set of padded information bits such that the set of padded information bits, after being encoded, fill one or more OFDM symbols up to the boundary within the last OFDM symbol. The set of padded information bits are encoded to generate a set of coded bits. A PHY preamble is generated to include a subfield that indicates the boundary. The one or more OFDM symbols are generated to include (i) the set of coded information bits in the one or more OFDM symbols up to the boundary to allow a receiving device to stop decoding the one or more OFDM symbols at the boundary, and (ii) post-encoder padding bits in the last OFDM symbol following the boundary.

  • Patent number: 9948365
Abstract: A first communication device determines that a second communication device is capable of using a transparent implicit beamforming technique to determine steering matrices for transmitting to the first communication device via a forward multiple input multiple output (MIMO) communication channel. In response to determining that the second communication device is capable of using the transparent implicit beamforming technique, the first communication device transmits at least a certain number of data units to the second communication device using a maximum number of spatial streams during a time period of a certain duration when the first communication device is otherwise using less than the maximum number of spatial streams to transmit other data units to the second communication device. Transmitting the certain number of data units using the maximum number of spatial streams permits the second communication device to use the transparent implicit beamforming technique to develop one or more steering matrices.

  • Patent number: 9935794
Abstract: A method for use in a communication network is described. A plurality of data frames, transmitted simultaneously from respective ones of a plurality of second communication devices, are received at a first communication device via a multiple input, multiple output (MIMO) communication channel. A common carrier frequency offset (CFO) that is common to the data frames is estimated based on a legacy portion of a physical layer (PHY) preamble of the data frames. Each data frame is compensated based on the common CFO. Respective device-specific CFOs are estimated for channel estimation of the MIMO communication channel based on pilot tones of respective non-legacy training field portions of the data frames. The pilot tones have a non-overlapping allocation to the plurality of second communication devices and each device-specific CFO is specific to the corresponding second communication device. The respective non-legacy training field portions are compensated based on the corresponding device-specific CFO.
