Publication number: 20060293581Abstract: An imaging marker comprised of glass and iron-containing aluminum microspheres in a gel matrix which shows uniformly good contrast with MR, US and X-Ray imaging. The marker is small and can be easily introduced into tissue through a 12-gauge biopsy needle. The concentration of glass microspheres and the size dictate the contrast for US imaging. The contrast seen in MRI resulting from susceptibility losses is dictated by the number of iron-containing aluminum microspheres; while the artifact of the marker also depends on its shape, orientation and echo time. By optimizing the size, iron concentration and gel binding, an implantable tissue marker is created which is clearly visible with all three imaging modalities.Type: ApplicationFiled: May 12, 2005Publication date: December 28, 2006Inventors: Donald Plewes, Yangmei Li, Jian-xiong Wang

Publication number: 20060082877Abstract: An improved lenticular image display is disclosed. The lenticular image display comprises a lenticular lens sheet, an image actuating assembly and an image fine-tuning assembly. The lenticular lens sheet comprises either a linear array of (i) plano-convex or (ii) trapezoid-convex cylindrical lenses. The image actuating assembly comprises either (i) a rotor-shaft, (ii) a sliding bar or (iii) reel spindle for effecting the changeover of the lenticular image. The lenticular image display further comprises a close-contact net for maintaining the lenticular image in intimate contact with the lenticular lens sheet to produce clear and sharp image changeovers. Clear and precise lenticular image changing effect ensures that the display is capable of serving as a stationary, rotational or multi-directional advertising medium, which takes full advantage of multiple image scrolling so as to increase advertising volume and expands its scope of application.Type: ApplicationFiled: April 18, 2005Publication date: April 20, 2006Inventor: Xiong Wang

Publication number: 20030211129Abstract: We make a substrate biocompatible by contacting it with a starting material and initiating alternating charge layer electrostatic self assembly to form a thin film. Starting materials may be poly(vinylpyrrolidone), poly{bis-(carboxylatophenoxy)phosphazene}, poly(methacrylic acid), poly(l)-lysine, poly(ethylene glycol), poly(D-glucosamine), poly(l-glutamic acid), poly(diallyldimethylamine), poly(ethylenimine), hydroxy fullerene, long-sidechain fullerene, or other polymers that participate in electrostatic self-assembly. The thin film fabrication advantageously may be at room temperature. A biocompatible thin film that is uniform and homogeneous can be provided. Optionally, ZrO2, Al2O3 or TiO2 nanoclusters also may be used in the film assembly. The film may be used in a drug delivery device or a medical device. The film may be used for tissue engineering.Type: ApplicationFiled: October 14, 2002Publication date: November 13, 2003Inventors: William B Spillman, You-Xiong Wang, Richard O Claus

Publication number: 20020006181Abstract: The present invention provides an in situ, low dose and noninvasive method and device for estimating bone mineral content of trabecular bones, particularly the calcaneus. The method of estimating bone mineral content involves measuring the intensity of X-rays backscattered from the calcaneus and estimating the calcium content from this intensity. In one embodiment the X-ray source is a small x-ray tube that provides a continuous energy spectrum of X-rays. The intensity of backscattered X-rays from the soft tissue covering the trabecular bone, preferably the calcaneus, is compensated for by directly measuring the thickness of the soft tissue. Alternatively the soft tissue thickness can be measured directly along with the bone mineral content from the backscattered X-rays by measuring intensity over an energy range and correlating these results with a model of backscattering from a trabecular bone covered with a layer of soft tissue.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 26, 2001Publication date: January 17, 2002Inventors: Innes K. MacKenzie, William Tait, Jian-Xiong Wang
