  • Publication number: 20090148816
Abstract: Electronic models of components of dental appliances can be generated based on the outer surface of an electronic model of the dental appliance. The outer surface may be generated based on the dentition and anatomy of the patient. For example, automated processes may identify landmarks in the anatomy and define the outer surface based on the identified landmarks. Alternatively, the outer surface may be generated based on statistical data. A management system coordinates automated processes with interactive processes to facilitate collaboration of remotely located technicians and equipment in generating electronic models.

  • Patent number: 7515452
Abstract: A memory array has a first memory cell with a plurality of transistors connected so as to restore a data value to a node of the memory cell to an initial value following an event upsetting the initial value. A first portion of the plurality of transistors is in a first cell portion and a second portion of the plurality of transistors is in a second cell portion. A second memory cell has a third cell portion and a fourth cell portion. The third cell portion is between the first cell portion and the second cell portion and adjacent to each of the first cell portion and the second cell portion. In a particular embodiment, the memory cell is a single-event-upset (“SEU”) tolerant memory cell and the first and second cell portions are each a half cell of a sixteen transistor memory cell.

  • Publication number: 20090054863
Abstract: A method for alteration of the morphology of cellulose fibers, particularly softwood fibers, by (a) subjecting the fibers to a metal ion-activated peroxide treatment carried out at a pH of between about I and about 9, preferably between 3 and 7, and (b) subjecting the treated fibers to a refining treatment thereby converts SW fibers to HW-like fibers in many respects. The metal ion-activated peroxide treatment has been noted to act on pulp cellulose and hemi-cellulose, causing oxidation and oxidative degradation of cellulose fibers. The chemical treatment of the pulp, taken alone, is not sufficient to attain the desired modification of the morphology of the fibers, however, subsequent refining or like mechanical treatment of the chemically-treated fibers to achieve a given degree of refinement of the fibers requires dramatically less refining energy to achieve a desired end point of refinement and to impart other desirable properties to the pulp.

  • Patent number: 7295191
Abstract: Disclosed are a method and a system for detecting multiple, simultaneous touches on a touch-sensitive screen of a computing device. The hardware that controls the touch screen performs two measurements to locate a touch location on the screen. If there is a single touch, then the two measurements are equal. A non-zero difference indicates multiple touches and is correlated with the spread of locations simultaneously touched on the screen. If the difference is greater than a set threshold, then an indication is given of multiple touches. The user is warned against multiple touches, and input from the screen is ignored as long as multiple touches are detected. For some embodiments, when multiple touches are detected, the invention also tries to indicate the boundary of the set of locations simultaneously touched. The boundary is used to interpolate the intended single touch from the locations of all the touches.

  • Patent number: 6958870
Abstract: A color wheel is disclosed having balancing groove. The color wheel includes a carrier, having a central axis about which it is rotated. An external surface and a periphery rotates along the central axis; a color filter plate shares a same central axis with the carrier, wherein an annular groove is disposed on the external surface of the carrier. The groove is shaped, for example in a wedge so that once a balancing substance such as epoxy is added into the annular groove to balance the color wheel, it becomes lodged therein after curing as the opening is smaller than the cured epoxy.

  • Patent number: 6897137
Abstract: A process for fabricating ohmic contacts in a field-effect transistor includes the steps of: thinning a semiconductor layer forming recessed portions in the semiconductor layer; depositing ohmic contact over the recessed portions; and heating the deposited ohmic contacts. The field-effect transistor comprises a layered semiconductor structure which includes a first group III nitride compound semiconductor layer doped with a charge carrier, and a second group III nitride compound semiconductor layer positioned below the first layer, to generate an electron gas in the structure. After the heating step the ohmic contacts communicate with the electron gas. As a result, an excellent ohmic contact to the channel of the transistor is obtained.

  • Patent number: 6880998
Abstract: Disclosed is a “keyboard overlay” that sits on top of a touch-sensitive display screen of a computing device. After aligning the overlay on the display screen, the user types on the overlay. When the user presses a key on the overlay, the pressure is transmitted to the display screen below. That pressure is registered by the display screen as a touch. The keyboard overlay is formed to provide tactile finger-position feedback so that a user can keep his fingers oriented properly over the keyboard. The overlay may be opaque with keycap information displayed in the key areas. The overlay may be transparent, allowing a user to see a virtual keyboard painted on the display screen below. The computing device can detect the presence and type of an overlay. Applications may respond differently to different types of overlays. Different applications may be invoked depending upon the type of overlay detected.

  • Patent number: 6856941
Abstract: Method for determining the camber line and thickness distribution for blades used in a cooling fan with counter-rotating impellers. The camber lines and thickness distributions for the blades of each of the impellers are determined through use of Bezier curves and chosen to reduce boundary layer separation of airflow across the blades. The Bezier control points are altered to produce a set of distributions of the camber lines and thickness distributions, and the most favorable set is found with increased cooling efficiency.

  • Patent number: 6843744
Abstract: A splice joint is for joining first and second synchronous drive belt ends, of the belt type comprising a reinforcement material layer covering a base layer formed from a first thermoplastic material. The joint comprises a fused portion of the base layer of the first and second belt ends that define a splice region. At least one coating layer of thermoplastic material overlaps the reinforcement layer of the end portions in the splice region. The coating layer is comprised of a second elastomeric material intended to melt and penetrate into interstices of the reinforcement material layer while within the mold press. Migration of the base layer material through the reinforcement material layer to the pulley-engaging outer surface is thereby inhibited. The second elastomeric material composing the coating layer may be selected to provide desired frictional and wear characteristics.
