  • Publication number: 20150055123
Abstract: A rotatable compensator configured to transmit non-collimated light over a broad range of wavelengths, including ultraviolet, with a high degree of retardation uniformity across the aperture is presented. In one embodiment, a rotatable compensator includes a stack of four individual plates in optical contact. The two thin plates in the middle of the stack are made from a birefringent material and are arranged to form a compound, zeroth order bi-plate. The remaining two plates are relatively thick and are made from an optically isotropic material. These plates are disposed on either end of the compound, zeroth order bi-plate. The low order plates minimize the sensitivity of retardation across the aperture to non-collimated light. Materials are selected to ensure transmission of ultraviolet light. The optically isotropic end plates minimize coherence effects induced at the optical interfaces of the thin plates.

  • Publication number: 20140304059
Abstract: A method and system for providing a consumer comparative pricing data from at least two merchants is discussed. In one aspect of the invention a customer queries a database containing time and location specific pricing data for competitors of a first merchant. If the query shows that the customer could have purchased the same item or items for a lower price at a competitor, the first merchant awards the customer an on-line credit that is redeemable at the merchant. In another aspect, a consumer uploads an image of a competitor's receipt. The item specific data on the receipt is converted to UPC codes on an item-by-item basis. These UPC codes are then compared against the merchant's pricing database and the consumer is provided data set comparing the prices the consumer paid to the prices the consumer would have paid had the consumer shopped at the merchant.

  • Publication number: 20140284793
Abstract: Semiconductor devices are described that include a via that extends only partially through the substrate. Through-substrate vias (TSV) furnish electrical interconnectivity to electronic components formed in the substrates. In implementations, the semiconductor devices are fabricated by first bonding a semiconductor wafer to a carrier wafer with an adhesive material. The semiconductor wafer includes an etch stop disposed within the wafer (e.g., between a first surface a second surface of the wafer). One or more vias are formed through the wafer. The vias extend from the second surface to the etch stop.

  • Publication number: 20140278901
Abstract: Systems and methods are disclosed for evaluating a transaction concluded at a POS (point of sale) device. Prices for competitive retail stores within a geographic region of the POS may be evaluated after concluding a transaction. Price differences between items and corresponding prices in the third party data are identified. Where the purchase price exceeds the corresponding third-party price, a credit is assigned to the customer, such as in the form of a gift card or code that may be redeemed in a subsequent transaction. Credits may also be assigned to a debit card associated with a user, either with or without applying some multiplier. A portion of the credit may be donated to a donee. Third party donations associated with a product purchased in a transaction may also be assigned to a donee.

  • Publication number: 20140269866
Abstract: Apparatus and methods for loss of signal detection are provided. In one embodiment, a detection circuit for monitoring an input includes a small signal boost circuit, a rectifier circuit, a low-pass filter, and one or more comparators. The small signal boost circuit can generate an amplified signal by providing a first amount of gain to an input signal when the input signal is relatively small, but can saturate and provide reduced gain without external gain control adjustment when the input signal does not have a relatively small magnitude. The rectifier circuit can rectify the boosted signal to generate a rectified signal, and the low-pass filter can filter the rectified signal to generate a filtered signal. The one or more comparators can compare the filtered signal to one or more decision threshold voltages to determine the presence or absence of the input signal on the input.

  • Patent number: 8831675
Abstract: A mobile communication device (102) contains both a WAN modem (122) and a PAN modem (134) which operate on interfering radio frequencies. To mitigate interference, and still permit real-time communication operation, the PAN is prevented from transmitting while the WAN is receiving (714). The PAN carries the real-time data via an active link (144) between the PAN modem and a remote device (142). The active link uses a retransmission protocol, which allows recovery of suppressed packets within a given period. The PAN modem is disabled for periods shorter than a maximum time which guarantees success transmission or retransmission of the PAN data. To further aid successful operation of the PAN retransmission operation, the WAN base station aggregates data into a single downlink burst.

  • Publication number: 20140206190
Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention include methods of forming a silicide layer on a semiconductor substrate. In an exemplary embodiment, a metal layer may first be deposited above a semiconductor substrate using a chemical vapor deposition process with a metal amidinate precursor and then the semiconductor substrate may be annealed, causing the semiconductor substrate to react with the metal layer forming a metal-rich silicide layer on the semiconductor substrate. Embodiments may also include forming a low-oxygen capping layer above the metal layer prior to annealing the semiconductor substrate to protect the metal layer from oxidation. The low-oxygen capping layer may, for example, be made of titanium nitride containing less than 20 parts per million of oxygen. Embodiments may further include forming a silicide layer using the above process in a contact hole above a source/drain region of a field-effect transistor, and forming a metal contact above the silicide layer.
