  • Patent number: 10552417
Abstract: According to non-limiting embodiments disclosed herein, the functionality of an object cache in a server can be extended to monitor and track web traffic, and in particular to perform rate accounting on selected web traffic. As the server communicates with clients (e.g., receiving HTTP requests and responding to those requests), the server can use its existing object cache storage and existing object cache services to monitor web traffic by recording how often a client makes a particular request in the object cache and/or other data about the requests. Preferably, the object cache is still used for conventional caching of objects, the object cache thus providing a dual role by storing both web objects and rate accounting data.

  • Publication number: 20190056587
Abstract: A vehicle may have a head-up display that produces a display output allowing a viewer in the vehicle to observe two-dimensional or three-dimensional content. The head-up display may include a display unit that produces the display output and an optical combiner on a vehicle window that directs the display output towards the viewer. The optical combiner may be a holographic or diffractive optical element or may be an array of angled reflectors such as micromirrors embedded in an index-matching material. Optical combiners formed from holographic elements may be configured to reflect light at an angle of reflection that is different than the angle of incidence, thereby allowing light to reach a viewer's eyes even when the head-up display reflects light off of a side window on a vehicle door. A holographic optical element may include volume holographic media such as photopolymers or holographic polymer dispersed liquid crystal.

  • Publication number: 20180304727
Abstract: A vehicle may have optical structures such as windows and mirrors that have the potential to allow glare from external objects to shine into the eyes of a driver or other vehicle occupant. A control circuit may gather information on where the eyes of the driver are located using a camera mounted in the vehicle and may gather information on where the sun or other source of glare are located outside of the vehicle. Based on this information, the control circuit may direct a light modulator on a window or mirror to selectively darken an area that prevents the glare from reaching the eyes of the driver. The light modulator may have a photochromic layer that is adjusted by shining light onto the photochromic layer, may be a liquid crystal modulator, an electrochromic modulator, or other light modulator layer.

  • Publication number: 20180177619
Abstract: In an embodiment, the invention relates to neural prosthetic devices in which control signals are based on the cognitive activity of the prosthetic user. The control signals may be used to control an array of external devices, such as prosthetics, computer systems, and speech synthesizers. Data obtained from a 4×4 mm patch of the posterial parietal cortex illustrated that a single neural recording array could decoded movements of a large extent of the body. Cognitive activity is functionally segregated between body parts.

  • Patent number: 9776279
Abstract: A method and system are provided for crystallizing thin films with a laser system. The method includes obtaining a thin film comprising a substrate and a target layer that contains nano-scale particles and is deposited on the substrate. The heat conduction between the target layer and the substrate of the thin film is determined based on thermal input from the laser system to identify operating parameters for the laser system that cause crystallization of the nano-scale particles of the target layer in an environment at near room temperature with the substrate remaining at a temperature below the temperature of the target layer. The laser system is then operated with the determined operating parameters to generate a laser beam that is transmitted along an optical path to impinge the target layer. The laser beam is pulsed to create a localized rapid heating and cooling of the target layer.

  • Publication number: 20170109797
Abstract: A server-side technique to detect and mitigate client-side content filtering, such as ad blocking. In operation, the technique operates on a server-side of a client-server communication path to provide real-time detect the existence of a client filter (e.g., an ad blocker plug-in) through transparent request exchanges, and then to mitigate (defeat) that filter through one or operations designed to modify the HTML response body or otherwise obscure URLs. Preferably, the publisher (the CDN customer) defines one or more criteria of the page resources being served by the overlay (CDN) and that need to be protected against the client-side filtering.
