Patent number: 10748340Abstract: An electronic device may have a camera and a display. The display may be configured to display virtual reality content for a user in which no real-world content from the camera is displayed or mixed reality content in which a combination of real-world content from the camera and overlaid virtual reality content is displayed. Control circuitry in the device may adjust the display and camera while transitioning between virtual reality and mixed reality modes. The control circuitry may reconfigure the camera to exhibit a desired frame rate immediately upon transitioning from virtual reality mode to mixed reality mode. Transitions between modes may be accompanied by smooth transitions between frame rates to avoid visible artifacts on the display. The camera frame rate may be synchronized to the display frame rate for at least part of the transition between the virtual reality and mixed reality modes.Type: GrantFiled: May 25, 2018Date of Patent: August 18, 2020Assignee: Apple Inc.Inventors: Sheng Zhang, Aleksandr M. Publication number: 20200073122Abstract: A display system includes a head-mounted display unit and a wake control system. The head-mounted display unit provides content to a user and is operable in a low-power state and a high-power state that consumes more power to provide the content to the user than the low-power state. The wake control system determines when to operate in the high-power state. The wake control system may assess a first wake criterion with low power, assess a second wake criterion with higher power than the first wake criterion upon satisfaction of the first wake criterion, and cause the head-mounted display unit to operate in the high-power state upon satisfaction of the second wake criterion.Type: ApplicationFiled: June 21, 2019Publication date: March 5, 2020Inventors: Fletcher R. Patent number: 10552417Abstract: According to non-limiting embodiments disclosed herein, the functionality of an object cache in a server can be extended to monitor and track web traffic, and in particular to perform rate accounting on selected web traffic. As the server communicates with clients (e.g., receiving HTTP requests and responding to those requests), the server can use its existing object cache storage and existing object cache services to monitor web traffic by recording how often a client makes a particular request in the object cache and/or other data about the requests. Preferably, the object cache is still used for conventional caching of objects, the object cache thus providing a dual role by storing both web objects and rate accounting data.Type: GrantFiled: November 15, 2016Date of Patent: February 4, 2020Assignee: Akamai Technologies, Inc.Inventors: Eugene Y.
