  • Patent number: 11775021
Abstract: An electronic device may have an optical touch sensor that is insensitive to the presence of moisture. The display may present images through a display cover layer. A light source may illuminate an external object such as a user's finger when the object contacts a surface of the display cover layer. This creates scattered light that may be detected by an array of light sensors. A metasurface grating may be used to couple light from the light source into the display cover layer at an angle such that total internal reflection within the display cover layer is sustained across the display cover layer even when the display cover layer is immersed in water or otherwise exposed to moisture. Additional metasurface gratings may be formed on the display cover layer to redirect light propagating within the display cover layer away from edges that might otherwise defeat total internal reflection.

  • Patent number: 11748145
Abstract: A computer system includes a virtual machine (VM) host computer and a data storage system providing physical storage and mapping logic to store a virtual volume (vVol) for a VM. During a first operating session, first-session working data is stored on the vVol, the working data being session specific and not persisting across operating sessions. At the end of the first operating session, unmap operations are performed to deallocate underlying physical storage of the vVol, leaving the vVol as a skeleton vVol. At the beginning of a subsequent second operating session, and based on the existence of the vVol as the skeleton vVol, the VM host resumes use of the vVol for storing second-session working data of the VM during the second operating session. The retention of the vVol in skeleton form can improve system startup efficiency especially for a boot storm involving simultaneous startup of many VMs.

  • Patent number: 11723564
Abstract: A compact optical sensor is used to determine heart rate, hemoglobin, hydration, peptides, or oxygen saturation using a light source and a single photodiode. The single photodiode has a first filter and a second filter. The first filter is closer to the light source and is transparent to green light and blocks red light. The second filter is farther from the light source and is transparent to red light and blocks green light. This arrangement of the filters facilitates acquisition of backscattered light from desired depths of measurement within the body of a user. At a first time, the light source emits red light and first output from the photodiode is determined. At a second time, the light source emits green light and second output from the photodiode is determined. The optical sensor determines oxygen saturation using the first output and heart rate using the second output.
