  • Patent number: 6099323
Abstract: An electrical connector having retaining device comprises a dielectric housing defining a mating face. At least a pair of standoff extend downward from an under face of the housing for mounting on a printed circuit board. The housing defines a longitudinal groove extending along the mating face. A plurality of terminals each has its contacting portion protruding from an inner wall of the groove. Each terminal has its soldering leg extending beyond the under face. A pair of retaining device mount onto the printed circuit board adjacent transverse ends of the housing. The retaining devices jointly define a receiving a receiving slot for an electrical module. Each the retaining device includes a plate portion defining a supporting face and an under face opposite the supporting face. At least a mounting pad extends downward from the under face of the plate portion for mounting on the printed circuit board.

  • Patent number: 6086402
Abstract: A socket connector includes a base defining slots for receiving and retaining contact elements therein. A cover adapted to support an electronic device, such as a central processing unit (CPU), defines holes corresponding to the slots of the base with pins of the CPU extending therethrough. The cover is positioned on the base with the pins partially received in the slots and is moved with respect thereto by an actuation device exerting a force on an edge thereof. A protection frame includes several segments forming channels for snugly receiving edges of the cover thereby protecting the cover from damage caused by the actuation force. The frame substantially extends along edges of the cover thereby enhancing the rigidity of the cover and preventing the cover from experiencing warpage during manufacture and operation.

  • Patent number: 6077099
Abstract: An electrical connector includes a base having a top face in which contacts are retained. A cover defining a plurality of through holes for receiving pins of a central processing unit is mounted to the base thereby defining an interior space therebetween for accommodating a slide plate. The slide plate has a conductive member corresponding to each of the contacts and is movable to electrically engage each contact with the corresponding pin of the central processing unit. Two elongate recesses are defined in the top face of the cover. Each elongate recess has two end walls forming two opposite inclined faces. Two elongate projections are formed on a bottom face of the cover and are received in the recesses of the base. Each projection has two inclined end faces matingly and guidingly engaging with the end walls of the corresponding recess thereby properly positioning the cover with respect to the base and preventing the cover from sliding with respect to the base during movement of the slide plate.

  • Patent number: 6071138
Abstract: A ZIF PGA socket includes a first housing and two second housings slidably received in the first housing. The second housings are simultaneously moved in the first housing by an actuator rod which is driven by a cam lever. The direction of movement of the second housing is substantially perpendicular to the direction of movement of the actuator rod.

  • Patent number: 6022236
Abstract: An electrical terminal for use with a ZIF socket for electrically connecting a CPU to a printed circuit board comprises a terminal body forming a leg portion at a lower portion thereof. The terminal forms a first connecting arm and a second connecting arm extend from a side of an upper portion thereof. Each of the first and second connecting arms form a connecting portion for electrically connecting with a corresponding terminal.

  • Patent number: 5989049
Abstract: A ZIF PGA socket includes a first housing and at least one second housing slidably received in the first housing. The at least one second housing defines a plurality of passageways for retaining corresponding number of contacts therein. Each contact has a first portion fixed in the passageway, a second portion fixed to a printed circuit board and a third portion deformably connected between the first portion and the second portion. When the at least one second housing is moved with respect to the printed circuit board, the third portion of the contact deforms to absorb stress to the second portion of the contact.
