  • Publication number: 20070171317
Abstract: In the liquid crystal display device having a back-light source for illumination, image data is provided to the panel in successive frames such that the optical response of the liquid crystal in each pixel within a frame period has an impulse-like shape. The back-light source is controlled to illuminate the liquid crystal display panel such that the illumination is provided to the pixels for only part of the frame period. The optical response curve has a rising portion followed by a falling portion, and the back-light source is controlled by a timing control module such that the back-light is turned off at least when the optical response curve is in the falling portion. It is also possible to remove the image data from the pixels, or to control the charging and discharging of the electrodes to produce the impulse-like shape.

  • Publication number: 20070165015
Abstract: DDR_SDRAM chips running at 1.5 clock rate are used for transferring image data from an image data source to a source driver in a display panel. In general, P DDR_SDRAM chips running at a 1.5 clock rate are used to store frame data in N frames. If the frame date in each of the N frames is n bits and the memory space in the DDR_SDRAM chip is m, then P is a smallest integer equal to or greater than N multiplied by (n/m). In data transfer in a frame, a line period is partitioned into N segments and each DDR-SDRAM chip is separated into (N?1) parts such that the parts are used to read different data in the different frames. In order to share I/O pins when using a number of DDR_SDRAM chips, the read/write sequence for the all DDR_SDRAM chips follows the same command and address.

  • Publication number: 20070120801
Abstract: A method for driving an active matrix display wherein each image frame is divided into a number of displayed frame portions, each of which is followed by a darker frame portion. The image data in the darker frame portion is removed so as to allow the pixel luminance to diminish. The temporal separation between the displayed frame portion and the following darker frame portion is smaller than a frame time. In a display where the lines are driven repetitively for forming the display image in a plurality of frame times, the image data provided to a pixel, after the luminance in that pixel changes from low to high, is adjusted so that the brightness of the pixel in the preceding frame times appear higher or not lower than that in following frames times.

Abstract: A method for driving a liquid crystal display includes: a) receiving a video signal from a first group of gray scales values; b) comparing a current frame of the video signal with a previous frame to determine whether the current frame is in a static state or in a dynamic state; c) when the current frame is determined to be in the static state, converting the video signal to a driving signal; d) when the current frame is determined to be in the dynamic state, calculating a overdrive signal. The value of the driving signal is selected from a second group of gray scale values having at least one decimal point gray scale and having the same number of gray scale values as that of the first group of gray scale values. The value of the overdrive signal is selected from the first group of gray scale values.

  • Publication number: 20060219700
Abstract: A pixel driving method is used in a liquid crystal display. First, a temperature t of the liquid crystal display is detected. An initial level, and a target level are provided. A corresponding coefficient an is looked up in a lookup table based on the initial level and the target level. An overdrive level OD is estimated by substituting the coefficient an and a function of the temperature f(t) into the formula: OD = ? n = 0 N ? a n ? f ? ( t ) n Thereafter, a pixel is driven by the overdrive level OD to reach the target level within a time frame. The lookup table comprises a plurality of columns and rows. The columns define the initial levels, and the rows define the target levels. Each of a plurality of coefficients an corresponds to an intersection formed by one column and one row.
