  • Patent number: 5926753
Abstract: In a radio selection call receiver, a high frequency amplifier amplifies a received signal from an antenna to produce an amplified signal. A filter eliminates an undesired wave form the amplified signal to produce a filtered signal. A frequency converter converts a frequency of the filtered signal to produce a converted signal. A demodulator demodulates the converted signal to produce a demodulated baseband signal. A control circuit compares a call number signal from the demodulated baseband signal with the predetermined call number signal to produce a coincidence signal when the call number signal coincides with the predetermined call number signal.

  • Patent number: 5903818
Abstract: A pager includes a radio frequency (RF) attenuator which is initially rendered inoperative and which initiates attenuation of an incoming RF signal in response to a control signal. An amplifier is coupled to amplify the output of the attenuator. A signal level monitor (24, 26), coupled to the amplifier, determines if the output of the amplifier exceeds a predetermined level. A demodulator (16) is coupled to reproduce a base band signal from the output of the amplifier. A controller, following the demodulator, attempts to establish bit sync during each of a plurality of conventional and intermittently executed preamble searches. If bit sync is not established in a given preamble search and if the level monitor indicates that the output of the amplifier exceeds the predetermined level, the controller applies the control signal to the attenuator for activating the attenuator.

  • Patent number: 5757277
Abstract: In writing of a communication data from a data transfer apparatus into a wireless selective call receiver, an appropriate transmission rate is first determined through communicating between a wireless selective call receiver and a data transfer apparatus via an optical transmission path while changing a transmission rate. When the appropriate transmission rate is determined, a communication data is automatically transmitted with the determined appropriate transmission rate from the data transfer apparatus to the selective call receiver via the optical transmission path such that the communication data is written in the receiver. When the write operation of the communication data is completed, the verifying operation is automatically performed to determine whether the communication data is accurately written in the receiver.

  • Patent number: 5710576
Abstract: A portable electronic device has a construction in which a first housing and a second housing are capable of being opened and closed and a display is mounted on an inner side of the first housing. A partial display area of the display is in a visible state even if the second housing is closed, and the full display area becomes in a visible state when the second housing is opened. An open/close state of the housings is detected by an open/close detector mounted on the first housing or the second housing. It may be detected by a user operating a predetermined key. According to the detected open/close state, a displaying area of the information is changed between the partial display area and the full display area. At the open state, the information is displayed in the full display area. At the closed state, the information is displayed in the partial display area.

  • Patent number: 5485752
Abstract: An apparatus for detecting contact between a contact detection member and a rotating body such as a grinding wheel rotably carried on a wheel head which is movable toward the contact detection member in a grinding machine for example. The apparatus comprises an AE sensor, a rectangular pulse generator, a sampling circuit and a processing device such as a microcomputer. The AE sensor generates an electric signal in response to vibration of the contact detection member. The rectangular pulse generator outputs a rectangular pulse whose duration corresponds to that of vibration. The sampling circuit delivers to the processing device an output indicating the duration of the rectangular pulse. The processing device processes the output delivered thereto so as to decide the occurrence of an actual contact between the rotating body and the contact detection member.

  • Patent number: 5471408
Abstract: A resource allocation optimization model includes linear constraints, allocation states of each object represented by 0, 1 variables of which the number is the same as the number of divided regions covering the whole allocation base region and an objective function described as the quadratic summation of resource stacks allocated to each divided region. In an optimizing process, variables having values which are to be changed are iteratively selected by a variable selection rule until it is judged that another variable change can not improve the objective function. The variable selection rule is characterized by using an evaluation index simply evaluating a value change of the objective function, defined by the inner product of a evaluation vector representing the present resource allocation states and a vector of a new resource allocation corresponding to a newly selected variable of a object, and selecting the next variable which minimizes the evaluation index.

  • Patent number: 5195026
Abstract: In nonlinear optimization a plurality of optimization methods are stored in a computer system as are techniques (knowledge) for applying those methods. Such techniques may be divided into common knowledge which are techniques applicable to all nonlinear optimization methods and domain knowledge which are techniques applicable to a corresponding one of the methods. When an optimization problem is input to the computer system, the system first selects one of the methods and applies it to the problem using the common knowledge and any relevant domain knowledge. If that method does not produce an optimum result, the system tries to solve the problem with another method, again making use of the common knowledge and the respective domain knowledge. This process is repeated until an optimum solution is obtained. The method is applicable to computer control of industrial plants and systems and to computer aided design.
