  • Patent number: 7346650
Abstract: A recording and reproducing system according to the invention is made up of a server apparatus and its terminals connected over a local area network that is administered independently in a limited area. In the system, any one of the terminals may generate a reproduction request and send it to the server apparatus over the LAN. In response to the request, the server apparatus reproduces video data from a storage medium installed therein and sends the reproduced video data to the requesting terminal over the LAN. In this manner, a user may reproduce video data and enjoy images thereof by remotely operating the server apparatus with ease from any terminal configured in the system.

  • Patent number: 7296055
Abstract: Disclosed is an information providing system in which the information providing apparatus first receives a connection request from the first information processing apparatus. Upon receipt of the connection request, a check is made to see whether the information providing apparatus is providing any image data or sound data to the second information processing apparatus. If the information providing apparatus is judged to be providing any image data or sound data to the second information processing apparatus, then information related to a chat program is transmitted to the first and the second information processing apparatus. After transmitting the connection request to the information providing apparatus, the first information processing apparatus receives the information related to the chat program from the information providing apparatus. Upon reception of the information, the first information processing apparatus executes a process based on the received information related to the chat program.

  • Patent number: 7292771
Abstract: An information processing apparatus and process for dealing with moving pictures. A storage stores still pictures corresponding to scene switchovers of the moving pictures, and time stamps of the scene switchovers. A display controller provides a display control to display, given a reference position on the screen, the still pictures in positions at distances from the reference position. Those distances reflect differences between a time stamp corresponding to the reference position and the time stamp of the scene switchovers.

  • Patent number: 7079750
Abstract: An information processing apparatus supplies time information by a real-time-clock (RTC) that is corrected and a correction history is recorded. When a signal representing a correct-time indication is received, a correction processing section corrects a setting time provided from the RTC using the signal and a result of the correction is recorded into a log memory. When a signal representing a correct-time indication is not received or detected, the correction processing section records failure of correction of the setting time of the RTC into a log memory. The correction processing section is also capable of reading a history of correction information from the log memory and correcting the setting time provided by the RTC based on the correction history.

  • Publication number: 20060010470
Abstract: The present invention relates to a data processing apparatus, a data processing method and a program, and a data processing system which are configured to provide an EPG as a user interface that further facilitates decision on whether to view or record a program. By aggregating information uploaded from a user side, statistical data, such as the number of persons who viewed a program during its broadcast time, an audience rating of a program during its broadcast time, or a good impression level representing how the user feels about a program, are calculated, whereby an EPG page is automatically generated in which the statistical data and program guide data that gives guidance on programs are superimposed. The present invention is applicable to, e.g., a broadcasting system that broadcast television broadcasting programs.

  • Publication number: 20050114886
Abstract: A display of “scroll up by 1 hour” is overlaid on sections of station name of a program schedule Fa1 when an up arrow key of a cross key provided to a remote commander is operated when a cursor K is on the upper border of a program frame, and when there is any preceding program (past program) not currently displayed in the program schedule Fa1. Then when an enter key provided to the remote commander is operated, the 1-hour-scrolled-up program schedule Fa1 is responsively displayed after reconfiguration. In such a manner, the display range of the program schedule can be changed with ease, and the present invention is applicable to television receivers for digital broadcasting.
