Patent number: 7171523Abstract: When a large number of computer disk devices are to be shared, partially different disk devices cannot be flexibly shared at a lower level of the operating system. As a solution, a disk sharing module consisting of a read routine and a write routine is provided between a file system module and a disk access module within the operating system. The write routine translates writes into a common disk device to writes into a private disk device, and stores update information in a private table within the private disk device. The read routine references the private table of the private disk device to translate reads from the common disk device into reads from the common disk device 120 or private disk device as appropriate.Type: GrantFiled: August 16, 2002Date of Patent: January 30, 2007Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventor: Yasuo Yamasaki

Patent number: 7039778Abstract: In a data backup method in a network storage system in which mirroring is conducted between two disk units, the mirroring is delayed by accumulating update data in a cache for a predetermined period of time. When storing the update data in the cache, files are related to each other, and information of file open and close is also stored. The update data is reflected in the mirrored disk using the file open and close information. As a result, the contents of the mirrored disk are delayed for a predetermined period of time from those of the primary disk, and all files are in other than the open state. Within a range of the period to store data in the cache, it is possible to restore data created at a point of time preceding a desired period of time. This enables recovery if a user erases files by mistake.Type: GrantFiled: August 15, 2003Date of Patent: May 2, 2006Assignee: Hitachi, Ltd.Inventor: Yasuo Yamasaki

Publication number: 20060045438Abstract: The present invention provides an optical receptacle that reduces the fluctuation of the optical coupling efficiency with the optical plug. The optical receptacle of the invention comprises a stub with a filler therein and a sleeve assembly to receive the optical plug. The stub with a cylindrical shape has an opening in the side where the optical plug is to be in contact thereto and a bore in the other side. The diameter of the opening is comparable to that of the core of the external fiber, while the diameter of the bore is greater than that of the opening. The filler exposes in this opening to couple with the external optical fiber. Thus, the optical coupling efficiency between the filler and the external fiber may enhance and the fluctuation thereof due to the insertion/extraction of the optical plug can be reduced.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 8, 2005Publication date: March 2, 2006Applicant: Sumitomo Electric Industries, Ltd.Inventors: Yasuo Yamasaki, Hiromi Nakanishi

Publication number: 20020013802Abstract: A virtual machine system which forms a hot standby configuration in a single computer system and effectively controls plural operating systems and application programs, and a method of allocating resources in the virtual machine system. Plural operating systems are initiated with a small amount of main storage allocated to the individual operating systems, whereby the fixed amount of main storage allocated is reduced. When an application program is executed, a request to extend a resource is issued to a virtual machine monitor to obtain the resource, whereby an operating system newly allocates the resource to execute the application program. Where a hot standby system is built using the virtual machine system, resources are reused by reallocating resources of the active operating system to a standby operating system.Type: ApplicationFiled: March 16, 2001Publication date: January 31, 2002Inventors: Toshiaki Mori, Yasuo Yamasaki
