  • Patent number: 6405695
Abstract: A torsion coil spring is installed in a circle groove of a chain sprocket. Both ends of the coil spring are bent in a radially outward direction. The first bent end is fit to a fixed pin protruding from the chain sprocket, and the second bent end is fit to a pin protruding from a vane rotor. The coil spring urges the vane rotor such that the vane rotor advances with respect to the chain sprocket. That is, the coil spring urges the vane rotor such that a camshaft advances with respect to an engine crankshaft.

  • Patent number: 6311654
Abstract: A seal plate partitions a sectorial space which houses a vane and a circumferential groove which houses a torsion spring, so that the sectorial space is formed to prevent the communication between an advance angle pressure chamber and a retard angle pressure chamber regardless of the space of the circumferential groove. As a result, by setting the inner diameter of the vane smaller than the outer diameter of the torsion spring, the outer diameter of the vane can be made relatively small without lowering the engine performance. Therefore, it is possible to reduce the actuator in size without lowering the engine performance, to reduce the weight of a valve timing adjusting device and to obtain a mounting space easily for mounting the valve timing adjusting device on the engine.

  • Patent number: 5724928
Abstract: According to the present invention, in a valve timing adjustment device, an arc-shaped gears are assembled alternately on a piston in the peripheral direction. A spring biases an annular member and the arc-shaped gear in the direction as to be away from the piston. A pin is press-fitted into a retainer ring. A spring biases the arc-shaped gear toward the retainer ring, that is, in the direction as to be closer to the piston. An annular member, an annular groove, the head of the pin, a cap, and a containing hole function as a hydraulic damper, respectively. Accordingly, the collision speed of the annular member with the piston accompanied by the movement of the arc-shaped gears, and the piston and the collision speed of the head of the pin with the piston are slowed down. In this way, the respective collision noises can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 5657671
Abstract: A control member of a torque transmitting apparatus is composed of pins, a retainer, a first and a second arc-shaped gears which form a single ring gear together, a piston, first springs and second springs. The first and second arc-shaped gears are biased respectively by the first and second springs in opposite directions so that the splines of the first and the second gears are deviated from each other while they are in mesh with corresponding splines of a sprocket sleeve and a cam sleeve. As a result, rattling noise due to backlash of the splines is suppressed even when torque change is transmitted to the sprocket sleeve.

  • Patent number: 5522352
Abstract: To realize a highly reliable feedback control of the valve timing, i.e., angular rotational relation between a crankshaft and a camshaft, three reference signals are generated from the crankshaft side, and three cam signals corresponding to three pulse inductors arranged at even angles to the camshaft or arbitrary angle intervals to the camshaft are generated from the camshaft side. The variation in the phase difference of each cam signal to each reference angle signal caused by the installation position of the corresponding pulse inductors is stored in a memory as compensation values indicating differences from the phase difference used as a reference. When the signals are detected, the corresponding compensation value for the phase differences other than those used as reference is read out, added and compensated. Based on the relation of the compensated phase difference and a target value of the valve timing, the rotational phase of the crankshaft and the camshaft is controlled.

  • Patent number: 5426992
Abstract: A non-backlash toothed wheel mechanism comprises, an internal gear, and an external gear mating with the internal gear wherein at least one of the internal gear and the external gear has a circumferentially arranged gear teeth array and at least two gear parts each of which has gear teeth forming a part of the circumferentially arranged gear teeth array, a positional relation between the gear parts is changeable, and the mechanism further comprises elastic means for urging one of the two gear parts relatively to another one of the two gear parts to change the positional relation between the gear parts so that each of the gear parts mates with another one of the internal gear and the external gear to reduce a backlash between the one of the internal gear and the external gear and the another one thereof.
