  • Publication number: 20020066841
Abstract: A flexible retainer for securing a web-like material, such as a table skirt, to a flat surface or table. The retainer has a frontwardly extending upper member, a substantially U-shaped lower member having a frontwardly extending first leg, and a primary member connecting the upper member to the lower member. The structure of the retainer and the configuration of its elements help to mask its appearance when used to retain a table skirt. In addition, extending into the lower end of the primary member are one or more vertical slots, which define one or more fingers. The configuration of the slots serve to improve the flexibility of the retainer, while maintaining the primary member's surface area for disposition of fasteners.

  • Publication number: 20020062540
Abstract: The present invention is a plastic retaining clip or retainer for securing a table skirt to an edge of a table top comprising a means for engaging at least two different table top thicknesses. More particularly, the retainer of this invention includes a primary member and a first arm and a second arm extending perpendicularly from opposite ends of the primary member, and a central member extending from the primary member, wherein predetermined spacings are defined between the central member and the first and second arms, respectively. In addition, the first and second arms have predetermined lengths selected to achieve the predetermined spacings.

  • Publication number: 20020060869
Abstract: To effectively suppress a signal in a low frequency region in which the medium noise and the signal distortion are concentrated, and in order to effectively utilize a detected component of the reproduced signal in the low frequency region, a target of partial response equalization to the perpendicularly recorded/reproduced signal is set so that the low-frequency component around the direct current is suppressed to a regulated quantity for both the effective suppression and the effective utilization. Accordingly, a maximum-likelihood decoding process is carried out through the target of partial response equalization. Reliability of data detection is made higher and a signal-to-noise ratio is improved, so that the noise from the recording medium can be reduced more and it is possible to provide a high-density magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus.

  • Publication number: 20020057509
Abstract: In a method of servo writing of a magnetic recording system and the magnetic recording system, the signal is recorded in a dummy area with a higher recording density than the burst signal. Also, the maximum bit length of the burst area is shortened as compared with the maximum bit length of the data area. A servo control method for perpendicular recording similar to that for longitudinal recording can be used to reduce the development cost. The anti-signal decay performance is also improved. Further, since the variations of the burst signal along the track width is suppressed, the positioning accuracy is improved. These effects combine to produce a reliable magnetic recording system of large capacity.

  • Publication number: 20020034043
Abstract: A magnetic head for perpendicular recording without writing from the lateral sides of a main pole and without erasing data on adjacent tracks. A magnetic disk storage apparatus using the magnetic head. The lateral side of the main pole of a magnetic head for perpendicular recording may have an inverted tapered shape obtained by forming a groove as a track portion to an inorganic insulating layer and then forming a magnetic layer and then flattening the upper surface. A leading edge, a trailing edge, or both lateral edges of the magnetic head may be tapered. The taper may be either smooth and linear or curved in profile.

  • Publication number: 20020030915
Abstract: When the amount of position error PE of a magnetic head meets the condition of Ewf>PE>=Eww for two threshold values Ewf and Eww meeting Ewf>Eww, the track is registered in the track information table as a track requiring rewrite and the tracks on both sides neighboring to the track are temporarily write-inhibited. The data of the track is rewritten on another track later so as to maintain the data.

  • Publication number: 20020012185
Abstract: A magnetic recording/reproducing apparatus includes a partial-response equalization circuit having frequency characteristic of cutting off low-frequency signal components inclusive of DC components; and a maximum-likelihood decoder, in which a reproduced signal outputted from the reproducing head is processed by the partial-response equalization circuit and then inputted into the maximum-likelihood decoder to be data-reproduced, thereby reducing a noise and distortion on the reproduced signal and reducing a data detection error rate.

  • Patent number: 6327112
Abstract: An information storage apparatus has a disk medium setting data recording areas along a plurality of tracks concentrically arranged, a head for recording and reproducing data on tracks of the disk medium, an actuator for moving the head to a desired track among the plurality of tracks. Also included is an electric circuit for controlling recording and reproducing in response to detecting the distance from a recorded magnetization pattern on an adjacent track in the radial direction by detecting previously recorded signals on adjacent tracks while data recording. Even if the track density is increased, the upper limit of a threshold value of a function for preventing off-track recording of the information storage apparatus can be increased and a high track density of the information storage apparatus can be easily realized.

  • Patent number: 6310741

The data of the track is rewritten on another track later so as to maintain the data. By doing this, the offtrack of the recording track can be made smaller without sacrifice of the access speed and the occurrence probability of write fault can be reduced. Furthermore, the reliability of a magnetic disk apparatus can be improved.

  • Publication number: 20010030832
Abstract: There are provided a magnetic head and a magnetic disk apparatus wherein an upper magnetic pole is so shaped that, at a position where skew angle is maximum, the maximum of its projected length in the radial direction of a magnetic disk is not more than the track pitch of the magnetic disk, whereby acceleration of thermal relaxation of information recorded on adjacent tracks is obviated even in an area where the skew angle is large.

  • Patent number: 6304402
Abstract: The equalizer is capable of generating an equalized output that is compensated in the non-linearity of the signal reproduced by an MR head and a reliable high-density magnetically recorded-signal reproducer. The equalizer of an FIR-type filter structure includes a plurality of delay elements for delaying an input signal by a certain period, a plurality of coefficient processing units provided to input or output taps of the delay elements, and an adder for obtaining the sum of the outputs of the coefficient processing units. The distortion of the reproduced waveform can be corrected by a relatively simple circuit structure by comparing the signal value inputted to the coefficient processing unit from each tap with a predetermined threshold level and changing the signal value and a coefficient value to be multiplied in accordance with the comparison result.

  • Publication number: 20010017746
Abstract: To make a soft magnetic underlayer of a double layered perpendicular magnetic recording medium thinner than heretofore while avoiding saturation. Assuming that Tb1 is the thickness of the soft magnetic underlayer of the double layered perpendicular magnetic recording medium, BS2 the saturation flux density of the same, Tm the thickness of a magnetic recording head's main pole 1 along a track direction in the vicinity of its floating surface, TWW the track width of the same, and BS1 the saturation flux density of the same, then Tb1<(BS1×Tm×TWW) / 2 (BS2×(Tm+TWW) ) is satisfied.

  • Patent number: 6141167
Abstract: A compensating circuit for compensating positive-negative asymmetry of an input signal having an amplitude exhibiting a positive-negative asymmetry with reference to a given level. Either one of the input signal or a signal obtained by multiplying the input signal by a given number is selected to be outputted as a compensated signal when the input signal has a level higher than a threshold level or alternatively when the input signal has a level lower than the threshold level. Distortion of signal waveforms ascribable to non-linearity of an MR head can be compensated satisfactorily with an extremely simplified and inexpensive circuit structure.

  • Patent number: 6098253
Abstract: A one-piece, tamper-resistant fastener for attaching one item to another is described. The fastener is particularly suited for attaching an item such as a ski coupon to a skier's garment. The attachment mechanism of the fastener is designed to allow a user to attach both items to the fastener, and thus the items to each other, in one action. The fastener is made of a single piece of plastic material, preferably polypropylene, which is easily recycled, even with a typical ski coupon attached. The one-piece fastener may alternatively be made using a biodegradable material.
