Patent number: 8104358Abstract: A high sensitivity strain sensor that utilizes a micro-scale cavity built in a multi-layer structure, with a pair of interdigitalized capacitor incorporated on one of the layers, is described in this document. The device's capacitance changes produced by unattended deformations of the cavity can be used to measure the associated strain without using any movable electrodes. The sensor can be remotely energized from a radio frequency wave sent by a reader antenna to construct a battery-free wireless instrument. Changes on the sensor's resonant frequency are remotely detected so that a strain level is measured from fluctuations in the received signal. This detection method provides a simple, reliable and sensitive technique to measure small strain changes down to the pico-scale. Materials with a highly strain-dependant permittivity are integrated in the sensor to enhance its sensitivity. The proposed sensor consists of a simple planar structure.Type: GrantFiled: January 23, 2007Date of Patent: January 31, 2012Assignee: University of Puerto RicoInventors: Yi Jia, Fredrick A. Patent number: 7927415Abstract: The present invention relates to a starch adhesive mixed with zeolite powder to provide suitable absorption function for corrugated cardboards, and a method for making the adhesive. The adhesive comprises: corn starch as main ingredient, zeolite powder suitably mixed with said corn starch, water, and additives like caustic soda and borax. The corn starch is mixed with zeolite powder in an amount of zeolite powder being 20˜33% of the total weight of corn starch and the zeolite powder, and said adhesive is prepared and adjusted to have a lower gelation temperature. The present invention solves the problem that the initial adhesive strength of adhesive would decrease because of addition of the zeolite powder to the adhesive and would make the drying time longer and then deteriorating the initial adhesive strength. The present invention will make it more efficient and predictable for the mass production of the zeolite starch corrugated cardboards.Type: GrantFiled: April 27, 2009Date of Patent: April 19, 2011Assignee: Taiwan Magnetic Innovation Technology, Inc.Inventors: Yi-Jia Chen, Jui-Min Wang, Yi-Chen Tsai
