  • Publication number: 20070064183
Abstract: A transflective liquid crystal display panel comprises a plurality of pixel units. Each pixel unit comprises a first substrate, a second substrate and a cholesteric liquid crystal layer. The first substrate has a reflective region and a transparent region, and the first substrate comprises a first electrode layer covering the reflective region and the transparent region. The second substrate comprises a reflector and a second electrode layer, in which the reflector is aligned with the transparent region of the first substrate, and the reflector is covered by the second electrode layer. The cholesteric liquid crystal layer is disposed between the first substrate and the second substrate. Each pixel unit of the liquid crystal display panel displays a bright state and a dark state by the above mentioned reflector, such that the cholesteric liquid crystal can be applied to the transflective liquid crystal display.

  • Publication number: 20060262237
Abstract: A pixel structure electrically connected to a scan line and a data line, includes an active device, a first pixel electrode, a second pixel electrode, a capacitor coupling electrode and a charge releasing device. The active device is electrically connected to the scan line and the data line. The second pixel electrode is electrically isolated from the first pixel electrode. The capacitor coupling electrode is disposed under the second pixel electrode and electrically connected to the data line through the active device. The charge releasing device is electrically connected to the second pixel electrode. The above-described pixel structure is able to effectively solve the image sticking problem. In addition, further provides an active matrix substrate which is able to avoid the image sticking effect.

  • Publication number: 20060158587
Abstract: A light channeling layer disposed adjacent to the bottom substrate of a transflective display to enhance the back-lighting efficiency. The transflective display has a transmissive area and a reflective area and the transmissive area has a transmission electrode. The light channeling layer comprises a plurality of light conduits, each of which is disposed behind a transmission electrode. The light conduit has a first aperture and a second aperture greater than the first aperture and the first aperture is positioned adjacent to the transmission electrode and a second aperture adjacent to the back substrate, so that light from a back-light source that enters into the light conduct through the second aperture is channeled to the transmission electrode through the first aperture.

  • Patent number: 7027118
Abstract: A device and method for making full color cholesteric displays such as a narrow band and a broad band cholesteric display using high birefringence LC materials with color filtering processes. The invention includes positioning slant reflector(s) in the transmissive portion of the display to reflect backlight into reflection pixels. The LCD can display the same color images in both reflective and transmissive modes, maintain good readability in any ambient, has low power consumption, high brightness, full color capability and has a fabrication process that is compatible with conventional LCD fabrication.

  • Patent number: 6801281
Abstract: Single cell gap transflective liquid crystal display which provides that the backlight traverses the reflective pixel portion twice and thereby follows a path similar to that of the ambient light. A slant reflector is built on the path of the back light to reflect the transmitted light to the reflective portion so that the back light and ambient light follow similar paths.
