  • Patent number: 9167514
Abstract: A communication device, such as a smart phone, includes an envelope tracking power supply that provides a voltage supply signal for a power amplifier. The envelope tracking signal input to the envelope tracking power supply arises from application of a shaping table on a desired transmit signal. The shaping table implements non-uniform gain compression across a range of output powers, and in particular may aggressively compress the power amplifier for low output powers, and less aggressively compress the power amplifier at high output powers. The non-uniform gain implemented via the shaping table may provide significant power savings, while still allowing the transmitter to meet spectral mask requirements.

  • Publication number: 20140155117
Abstract: A communication device, such as a smart phone, receives a power specification message from a network controller. The power specification message specifies an output power applicable for a particular communication subframe or symbol within the subframe. In response to the power specification message, the communication device determines a new shaping table and replaces an existing shaping table with the new shaping table. The communication device uses the shaping table to generate an envelope signal for an envelope tracking power supply, and the new shaping table is adapted to provide power saving operation at the specified output power.

  • Publication number: 20130258873
Abstract: Embodiments of a method and apparatus for performing an adaptive transmission scheme in a frequency division duplexing communication system based on channel state information estimated using an open-loop mode are described herein. In one example, the method includes estimating an impulse response of a channel using a signal received over a first frequency band of the channel from a device, transforming the impulse response into a frequency response of the channel, and subsequently performing the adaptive transmission scheme using the frequency response to transmit a signal to the device over a second frequency band of the channel that is different from the first frequency band.

  • Patent number: 8223826
Abstract: Embodiments are directed to a wireless receiver system that utilizes a special structure of pilot symbols used for synchronization and channel estimation in transmission packets to measure noise power at the receiver. The periodicity of the pilot signal sequences is used to extract the noise power from the received signal. Such extraction is achieved by subtracting the received signals from two pilot slots which are separated by the known periodicity of the training sequence. This method relies on the fact that desired signal and system interference signals will cancel out after the subtraction process. Measuring the power of the residual signal after subtraction represents the estimate of the noise power. Several consecutive such residual signals can be first summed up before measuring the power to improve the estimate of the noise power at the receiver.

  • Patent number: 8154304
Abstract: A printed circuit board (PCB) testing system includes two gear groups, a pair of transmission belts and a driver. The pair of transmission belts geared onto and driven by the two gear groups is parallel and respectively perpendicular to the PCB transmission guideway so as to define a PCB accommodation space therebetween. Each transmission belt includes a plurality of projections. The two gear groups are rotated synchronously and inversely. During operation, the projections on the pair of transmission belts, facing the PCB accommodation space, move down, the projections move away from each other and to the bottom of the corresponding transmission belts, and a PCB supported by the pair of projections drops onto the PCB transmission guideway.
