  • Patent number: 9871607
Abstract: A method for communication includes, in a transmitter, generating a signal for transmission to a receiver over a frequency sub-band assigned within a predefined system bandwidth, using a selected transmitter carrier frequency. The signal is converted into a phase-compensated signal by applying to the signal, using a phase compensator in the transmitter, a phase compensation that compensates for phase discontinuities caused to the signal due to a frequency difference between the transmitter carrier frequency and a center frequency, which is used by the receiver for down-converting the predefined system bandwidth. The phase compensation depends on the frequency difference. The phase-compensated signal is transmitted to the receiver over the frequency sub-band, using a transmitter front-end module.

  • Patent number: 9521670
Abstract: A method includes, in a mobile communication terminal, receiving signals from a base station in a sequence of time frames. Based on the received signals, a classification of the time frames into first and second types is determined in the terminal, such that a level of interference in the time frames of the first type is lower than the level of interference in the time frames of the second type. The received signals are decoded based on the time frames and the corresponding classification.

  • Patent number: 9203589
Abstract: A method includes receiving reference signals in a mobile communication terminal, the mobile communication terminal being designed to receive data-carrying signals that are transmitted from a base station using one of multiple predefined Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCSs). Based on the received reference signals, using processing circuitry in the terminal, effective Signal to Noise Ratios (SNRs) are calculated for the MCSs in a predefined partial subset of the MCSs that does not include all MCSs. The effective SNRs, for the MCSs that are not part of the predefined partial subset, are estimated by interpolating among two or more calculated effective SNR measures of the MCSs in the predefined partial subset using an interpolation function. Channel feedback is calculated based on the calculated effective SNRs and the estimated effective SNRs. The channel feedback is transmitted from the terminal, for use in transmitting the data carrying signals from the base station.

  • Patent number: 9112554
Abstract: A method includes, in a receiver, receiving a Multiple-Input Multiple-Output (MIMO) signal over a first plurality of partially-dependent communication channels that have a finite mutual dependence. Second channel responses are estimated in the receiver, for a second plurality of independent communication channels, which are derived from the partially-dependent communication channels and which have no mutual dependence. First channel responses are calculated for the first plurality of the partially-dependent communication channels, based on the second channel responses of the independent communication channels.

  • Patent number: 9036498
Abstract: A method includes receiving in a communication terminal a signal, which is transmitted in multiple links and which includes a control channel transmitted in an assigned sequence of the links. One or more candidate sequences of the links, which are likely to be the assigned sequence, are identified. For at least, one candidate sequence, a verification is made whether the candidate sequence is the assigned sequence, by re-encoding decoded bits of the candidate sequence to produce regenerated symbols and comparing the regenerated symbols to respective received symbols from which the decoded bits were decoded. The control channel is decoded from the candidate sequence in response to verifying that the candidate sequence is the assigned sequence.

  • Patent number: 9014308
Abstract: A method includes receiving signals transmitted over a communication channel in multiple blocks transmitted in respective frequency bins during respective time intervals. An estimate of the communication channel, for a given block transmitted during a respective time interval, is computed by (i) computing respective interim filtering results for the blocks transmitted in the respective time interval in the respective frequency bins belonging to the predefined subset, by filtering a first group of the reference signals that are transmitted in odd-order frequency bins and in a first set of symbols, so as to produce odd-order interim filtering results, and filtering a second group of the reference signals that are transmitted in even-order frequency bins and in a second set of symbols that does not overlap the first set, so as to produce even-order interim filtering results; and (ii) combining the odd-order interim filtering results and the even-order interim filtering results.

  • Patent number: 8923858
Abstract: A method includes, in a mobile communication terminal, receiving signals in a frequency band. One or more lists of entries are generated based on the received signals, each entry specifying a respective frequency channel suspected of containing a carrier of a respective Radio Access Technology (RAT). At least some of the entries are scanned in accordance with a scanning order that alternates from a first RAT to a second RAT before scanning all the entries of the first RAT. For each scanned entry, detection is made whether the respective frequency channel actually contains the carrier of the respective RAT. The detection of the carriers in the frequency band is output.

  • Patent number: 8861662
Abstract: A method includes receiving reference signals in a mobile communication terminal, which is designed to receive data-carrying signals that are transmitted from a base station using one of multiple predefined Modulation and Coding Schemes (MCSs). One or more pre-calculated mappings between Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) and error rate for one or more of the MCSs are held in the communication terminal. The pre-calculated mappings are adjusted according to one or more transmission parameters of the data-carrying signals. Measures indicative of respective actual spectral efficiencies that are achievable by the MCSs are estimated based on the adjusted mappings using the received reference signals. A preferred MCS is selected based on the estimated measures, and feedback that is indicative of the preferred MCS is sent to the base station.
