  • Patent number: 6697135
Abstract: The invention provides a transflective liquid crystal display device which can achieve substantially the same color purity regardless of the selected mode (transmissive or reflective) by controlling the density of a uniformly thick color filter layer or the thickness of a uniformly dense color filter layer, or by having another color filter layer that affects light only in the transmissive mode. The invention emphasizes the thickness of the color filter through which light passes or the density of the color filter through which light passes, in order to achieve substantially uniform color purity.

  • Patent number: 6678024
Abstract: A liquid crystal display device includes first and second substrates spaced apart from each other with a liquid crystal therebetween. The liquid crystal display device adopts a cholesteric liquid crystal color filter. Each portion of the cholesteric liquid crystal color filter is designed to have an adjusted order parameter according to a wavelength of a corresponding color ray. Therefore, with the variously adjusted order parameters of the cholesteric liquid crystal color filter, an increase of the color shift due to a longer wavelength is prevented.

  • Patent number: 6501519
Abstract: An inventive array substrate for the transflective liquid crystal display device includes a pixel electrode, a reflective electrode, and an interposed insulation layer. When the pixel electrode is under the reflective electrode, the sum of the thickness of the insulation layer and the reflective electrode is less than 0.5 micrometers. In other embodiments, upper surfaces of the reflective and pixel electrodes are on the same plane. This results from adjusting the thickness and changing the structure such as adopting a drain supplementary electrode extended from the drain electrode of the thin film transistor or positioning the pixel electrode within the transmitting hole of the reflective electrode.

  • Publication number: 20020068462
Abstract: A method of etching a material layer of a microstructure body, and a method of forming a lithography mask using the etching method are disclosed. In the method of etching a material layer, a carbon layer is formed on at least a part of the material layer to prevent the part of the material layer from being etched. The material layer is then etched using an alkali solution. In the lithography mask formation, an etch stop layer, a membrane layer, a lithography mask layer and a protective layer are sequentially formed on one surface of a substrate. Then, an etch mask including a carbon layer is formed on the other surface of the substrate, the etch mask exposing a part of the other surface of the substrate, and the other surface of the substrate, which is exposed by the etch mask, is etched using an alkali solution, so as to expose the membrane layer.

  • Patent number: 6384885
Abstract: A reflective-type liquid crystal display device is disclosed which comprises first and second substrates; a metal layer having a convex-concave surface over the insulating layer; a &lgr;/4 phase retardation optical film over the second substrate. The convex portion of the metal has a long width in a first direction perpendicular to the main viewing angle direction of the user. Polarization direction of the polarizer is at 90° with respect to the first direction, and slow axis of the optical film is at 45° with respect to the polarization direction. This reflective-type LCD has a high reflective luminance in the main viewing angle direction. Further, because TE(transverse electric) polarized light is incident on the metal transverse electric, the reflective luminance is much more improved.
