    Abstract: Provided are a method of tuning a coding rate and applying an unequal error protection for an adaptive video transmission, and a video transmission/reception apparatus using the method. The video transmission apparatus may include: a coding rate tuner to predict, as a channel capacity of a subsequent channel interval, an estimated channel capacity value fed back from the video reception apparatus, and to tune video and channel coding rates within the predicted channel capacity; a video encoder to perform video encoding of video frames at the tuned video coding rate, and to generate a video packet; and a forward error correction (FEC) encoder to apply the unequal error protection based on a length of the video packet and a type of the video frames included in the video packet, and to perform channel encoding of the video packet at the tuned channel coding rate to generate a bitstream.

    Abstract: A method of sharing data of a scalable video coding (SVC) file and the SVC file are provided. The SVC file includes: a scalable base track including at least one scalable layer entry each storing metadata of the at least one scalable layer; and at least one sub track generated based on the scalable base track, which includes identification information of the scalable layer that is a basis of generation of a sub track among the scalable layers and identification information of the scalable base track instead of the scalable layer entry. Accordingly, when an SVC coded content is stored as a file, it is possible to reduce a storage capacity by avoiding duplication of common data and to provide convenience when the stored content is reprocessed by allowing a relation of tracks correlated to one another to be represented.

    Abstract: Methods of coding a bitstream in which the frames are encoded for enabling a spatial resolution is changed in real time, extracting the bitstream by adding a signaling message indicating that the spatial resolution is changed, and decoding the bitstream in which the spatial resolution is changed in real time after actively detects whether the spatial resolution is changed without additional information, and a codec using the methods are provided. Therefore, if the network has the restricted environment that the resolution is changed in real time while a video encoding and decoding or if there is a need to output the video whose the spatial resolution is partly changed in the decoder, the present invention provides methods to actively cope with the spatial resolution change of the video so as to efficiently watch the video.

    Abstract: In the conventional content, a minimum access unit of the random access information is one frame unit. In the case of SVC video content, one frame consists of a plurality of scalable layers. The SVC data can be used for each salable layer only when the data is accessible for each scalable layer. The present invention provides a method and apparatus for transmitting and receiving an SVC file for each scalable layer wherein the SVC file can be accessed for each scalable layer by allowing metadata to contain a layer descriptor in a network abstraction layer unit (NALU) or in a byte unit.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a program recommendation system and method which receive PSIP/SI and programming information on digital broadcasting and provide a program recommendation service to viewers in an EPG application. The system receives personal information in order to set information of each viewer, confirms the received PSIP/SI information, and generates watching information through a viewer watching TV, in a predetermined format. In addition, the system inputs the generated watching information to a database, converts watching information of each viewer which is stored in the database input unit into divided input patterns using a fuzzy membership function to analyze the input patterns, and extracts information on a program with a high degree of preference from the analyzed result. Furthermore the system outputs preference program information of each viewer on a screen in order to recommend a program.
