Abstract: A liquid crystal display (LCD) that minimizes moiré phenomenon to prevent display performance degradation in the LCD is provided. The present invention also minimizes loss of the light supplied to a LCD panel and achieves high luminance with low power consumption. When a light transforming unit for uniformly forming light distribution of light supplied from a light source is overlapped with a reflective electrode of the reflective type LCD, the moiré is generated. The more and light leakage generated in the light transforming unit are prevented by changing in a structure of the light transforming unit. Therefore, a display operation of the reflective type LCD operates normally even in a dark place.

Abstract: Disclosed is a reflection type liquid crystal display (LCD) and a manufacturing method thereof. A first substrate on which a pixel array is formed is prepared. A second substrate is formed facing the first substrate. A liquid crystal layer is formed between the first and second substrates. A reflective electrode is formed on the first substrate. The reflective electrode includes a plurality of first regions and a plurality of second regions having a height difference relative to the first regions, in which a first total sum in length components of the second regions arranged along a direction perpendicular to a first direction is greater than a second total sum in length components of the second regions arranged along a direction perpendicular to a second direction such that the second regions have higher reflectivity in the first direction relative to the second direction.

Abstract: An optical alignment composition including self-photosensitive polyimide having a benzophenone moiety and an active hydrogen moiety, and an LCD having the alignment layer formed of the optical alignment composition are provided. Since the alignment layer with excellent thermal stability and improved pretilt angle is obtained, the LCD having excellent performance can be manufactured.

Abstract: An optical alignment polymer and an optical alignment composition having the same are provided. The optical alignment polymer has a compound selected from the group consisting of poly(maleimide), poly(vinyl acetal), poly(phenylene oxide), poly(maleimide styrene) and their derivatives in its main chain, and a photosensitive group at its side chain. The optical alignment polymer can have high level of optical alignment performance and high thermal stability.
