    Abstract: A surface carburization technique of medical titanium alloy femoral head in total hip arthroplasty comprises subjecting medical titanium alloy TC4 to surface carburization by using acetylene as carburizing agent to carry out gaseous carburization at high temperature to give medical titanium alloy femoral head in total hip arthroplasty with TiC ceramic on surface thereof. The TiC ceramic layer on femoral head can be more than 100 micron thick, which is relatively thick, overcomes the disadvantages in available medical titanium alloy material, and is particularly useful for replacement of total hip or knee arthroplasty.

    Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention provide a method and a system for implementing multicast using a slave block in DSL access technique. Several slave blocks are cascaded with a master block accessed to the DSL. The master block and slave block are respectively connected with DSL users via RTUs, and access an uplink via a network interface of the master block. The slave block is configured to support the IGMP proxy or the IGMP snooping so as to implement multicast function independently. This invention overcomes the shortcomings including the heavy burden on the master block, low efficiency and serious waste in bandwidth resulting from the fact that the operation of the slave block multicast member is implemented in the master block, thus increasing the efficiency of multicast and saving bandwidth of the master block.

The first electrical trace may be made of a first part on one side of the second electrical trace and a second part on the opposite side of the electrical trace. A conductive island area may be patterned into the support layer. The conductive island area may electrically couple the first part of the first electrical trace to the second part. The number of crossover points that the first electrical trace has may equal the number of crossover points that the second electrical trace has.

    Abstract: A variable polarization independent optical power splitter is disclosed. An input light beam “A” is split into two output light beams “M” and “N” where the optical power ratio of the two output light beams “M” and “N” is adjusted to a desired ratio by controlling a variable polarization rotator, e.g. a liquid crystal unit. The polarization components “P” and “S” of the input light beam “A” are separated in a first polarization separator, then processed through the variable polarization rotator, and a second polarization separator. The polarization independence of the power split is thus achieved through the stratagem of processing the “P” and “S” polarized components of the input light beam “A” separately, resulting in four light beams “H”, “I”, “L” and “K”, which are appropriately combined in the polarization combiner to yield the output light beams “M” and “N” having the desired optical power ratio “R”.

The beam combiner is a Wellstone prism which is used to combine two linear-polarized pumping beams, and the depolarizer has three different embodiments: a single stage high birefringent waveplate; two stages high birefringent waveplates; a quarter waveplate or a three-quarter waveplate plus a single stage high birefringent waveplate. The Polarization Beam Combiner (PBC) and the depolarizer are integrated into one single hybrid component, in which two orthogonal pumping lights with different wavelengths are combined and depolarized simultaneously. Therefore, the hybrid component and method makes it simpler and cheaper to design a Raman amplifier and will propel Raman amplifier market penetration in optical communication systems.

    Abstract: The invention discloses a comb wavelength division multiplexer, comprising: an input device at input side, a polarization splitter, a &lgr;/2 phase delay wave plate; a birefringent crystal filter; and a reflective parallel light polarization splitter for reflecting an incident light beam from the birefringent crystal filter into the birefringent crystal filter again, and passing the reflected light beam through the &lgr;/2 phase delay wave plate and the polarization splitter to an output side, so that the input side and the output side are a same side. The invention uses only one-stage filter to obtain a two-stage filtering effect. The channel isolation factor is improved and the size of the apparatus is reduced (FIG. 2).

    Abstract: An inspection apparatus and method is provided for inspecting external lead connectors in a grid array of an electronic package. The inspection apparatus includes a plurality of reflecting devices for directing a plurality of different oblique images to a partially reflective beam splitter, wherein each of the plurality of images corresponds to a different perspective view of the grid array. The apparatus is further configured such that each of the plurality of images share a single, common X,Y coordinate system for describing point locations within each image. An image capturing device captures each oblique image from the beam splitter. By comparing the relative location of image points in at least two captured images, the spatial coordinates and physical parameters of each solder ball may be calculated. The calculated values are converted to absolute values and compared against predetermined values for determining whether the electronic package meets manufacturing standards.
