Patent number: 7394229Abstract: A Switched Reluctance (SR) generator having improved efficiency at low and high speed is disclosed. The SR generator includes a step-up converter for controlling an excitation voltage of an excitation capacitor capable of providing a phase winding with an excitation current. Therefore, the SR generator can control the excitation current, and can provide a phase winding with a sufficient excitation current, thereby improving efficiency. The step-up converter is arranged between a battery capable of storing generated power and the excitation capacitor, boosts a voltage of the battery, and provides the excitation capacitor with the boosted voltage. Therefore, the SR generator does not include an additional power-supply unit for a boosting function, resulting in simplification of an overall structure and reduction of a production cost.Type: GrantFiled: December 8, 2005Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Jun-young Lim, Yong-won Choi

Patent number: 7394228Abstract: Disclosed is an SR (switched reluctance) generator with improved generation capability in a low-speed range. The SR generator is configured such that an inductance of a phase winding wound around a stator is increased in a low-speed range and is reduced in a high-speed range. Accordingly, a variation rate of the inductance relative to a phase angle is increased in a low-speed range, resulting in an increased output energy in a low-speed range and an improved generation efficiency. The phase winding of the stator may be configured to have a single phase. Accordingly, since the generator is configured with the reduced number of switches, it can be manufactured inexpensively and simply.Type: GrantFiled: December 29, 2005Date of Patent: July 1, 2008Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Jun-young Lim, Yong-won Choi

Patent number: 7279815Abstract: A swing motor having an opening formed asymmetrically inside a stator. The swing motor is formed with an asymmetrical opening, in particular in a semicircular shape inside the stator. The opening is provided with a plurality of salient poles wound with coils. Electric current alternately flows through the coils so that a rotor, installed in the stator in a state of being spaced apart from the stator, can reciprocally move. Since the height of the stator is reduced by forming the opening asymmetrically in comparison with the case of forming the opening symmetrically, it is advantageous for minimizing the size of the product in which the swing motor is installed.Type: GrantFiled: November 2, 2004Date of Patent: October 9, 2007Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Jun Young Lim, Yo Han Lee, Sang Young Kim, Myung Keun Yoo, Yong Won Choi

Patent number: 6856108Abstract: Switched reluctance motor and an initial activating method thereof in which an aligning pulse is applied to a stator to make a rotor wait at a normal torque generating region to be driven, preventing the rotor from rotating in a direction reverse to a target rotating direction. The standby position of the rotor in the switched reluctance motor is sensed. When the standby position of the rotor corresponds to a reverse torque generating region where a torque causing rotation in a direction reverse to a target rotating direction is generated, an aligning pulse is applied to the stator, causing the rotor to rotate to a normal torque generating region where a torque causing rotation in a normal direction corresponding to the target rotating direction is generated. A driving pulse is then to the stator, causing the rotor waiting at the normal torque generating region to rotate in the normal direction.Type: GrantFiled: March 3, 2003Date of Patent: February 15, 2005Assignee: LG Electronics Inc.Inventors: Sang Young Kim, Yo Han Lee, Jun Young Lim, Yong Won Choi
