  • Patent number: 6575558
Abstract: A single-pass print head has multiple orifice plates each serving some but not all of the area to be printed. In embodiments, the printhead includes an array of ink jet outlets sufficient to cover a target of a print substrate at a predetermined resolution, and orifice plates, each of the orifice plates having orifices, each of the orifice plates serving some but not all of the area to be printed. The orifices are arranged in a pattern such that adjacent parallel lines on the print medium are served by orifices that have different positions in the array along the direction of the print lines, that are separated by a distance that is at least an order of magnitude greater than the distance between adjacent orifices in a direction perpendicular to the print line direction.

  • Patent number: 6377834
Abstract: NMR images indicative of thermal changes in tissues undergoing therapy are produced using a gradient-recalled echo pulse sequence. Prior to therapy a contrast agent which shortens spin T1 relaxation time is injected into the patient and a reference phase image indicative of proton chemical shift is acquired. Temperature maps are produced in real-time as the therapy is subsequently performed by repeatedly acquiring NMR data, reconstructing measurement phase images and subtracting the reference phase image. The temporal rate at which the temperature maps are produced is increased by segmenting k-space and acquiring less than all the segments during each repetition.

  • Publication number: 20010055298
Abstract: An apparatus and system for providing wireless access to packet data networks and value-added services is disclosed. The wireless access integrated node (WAIN) offers a simplified internal architecture which eliminates unnecessary intermediate protocols contained in a multi-node hierarchical network architecture while still supporting the main functions of standard mobile networks and preserving standard external interfaces. The WAIN is essentially an integrated network element that provides local radio coverage and complements the capability of the public wireless network. The WAIN can automatically configure itself to minimize interference and achieve optimal performance.

  • Patent number: 5671156
Abstract: The present invention is an improved transmission system for JPEG images. The present invention may include a separator for separating the JPEG image into Type-I and Type-II information and a transmitter for transmitting the Type-I and Type-II information over a wire or wireless communication medium to a receiver with unequal error protection, wherein the more error sensitive Type-I information is provided with more powerful error protection than the less sensitive Type-II information which makes up the bulk of the JPEG image. The present invention may further include a combiner for combining the Type-I and Type-II information received by the receiver in a JPEG format suitable for the data sink.

  • Patent number: 5596362
Abstract: Disclosed is a low bit rate audio and video communication system which employs an integrated encoding system that dynamically allocates available bits among the audio and video information and the manner in which the audio and video information will be perceived by a viewer. A dynamic bit allocation and encoding process will evaluate the current content of the audio and video information and allocate the available bits among the audio and video signals to be encoded based upon the perceptual significance of that information. A face location detection subroutine will detect and model the location of faces in each video frame, in order that the facial regions may be more accurately encoded than other portions of the video frame. A lip motion detection subroutine will detect the location and movement of the lips of a person present in a video scene, in order to determine when a person is speaking and to encode the lip and face regions more accurately.

  • Patent number: 5003584
Abstract: A call billing method and apparatus specifies, on a call-by-call basis, the calling charges incurred by a caller during a call to a sponsor-provided value-added service. The method provides the sponsor real time access to rate tables to specify call billing parameters needed to rate calls made to a sponsor number. A billing number is determined and validated and used to identify the party to receive a billing record for the call. A separate billing record is created for each call to the sponsor's number which includes sponsor-specified charges determined using the call billing parameters. Another feature enables the caller or called party to provide call billing parameters for billing and identificaiton purposes.
