Abstract: Embodiments relate to the design of a (good-to-person) robotics warehouse, and in particular to a warehouse layout model. The warehouse layout model is interposed between a warehouse map/location model containing concrete physical location data (e.g., QR codes), and an overlying warehouse management system generally configured to interact with a robotics system. The warehouse layout model defines basic elements such as •rackspace, •rackspace block, •lane, and •workstation. Those elements may in turn be arranged into basic patterns such as •storage area, •workstation area, •entry area, and others. The layout model also includes a set of basic traveling rules governing the movement of robots in relation to the elements and patterns. The layout model serves as a translator between the generalized warehouse management system, and the location/map model specific to a particular warehouse footprint. The warehouse layout model facilitates adapting the robotic system to changes as the warehouse expands and evolves.

Compression and decompression of Ethernet frames occur by the Ethernet network elements, rather than by user computers or end devices that transmit data on the Ethernet network. A new EtherType value may be used to identify the type of compressed Ethernet frames and optionally the type of mechanism used to compress the payload of Ethernet frames. The new EtherType may be inserted into a newly assembled frame ahead of the original EtherType. Alternatively, the new EtherType may replace the original EtherType and a short subheader may be used to identify the original EtherType. Abstract: A network element (NE) includes an intelligent interface (II) with its own operating environment rendering it active during the NE boot process, and with separate intelligence allowing it to take actions on the NE prior to, during, and after the boot process. The combination of independent operation and increased intelligence provides enhanced management opportunities to enable the NE to be controlled throughout the boot process and after completion of the boot process. For example, files may be uploaded to the NE before or during the boot process to restart the NE from a new software image. The II allows this downloading process to occur in parallel on multiple NEs from a centralized storage resource. Diagnostic checks may be run on the NE, and files, and MIB information, and other data may be transmitted from the II to enable a network manager to more effectively manage the NE.
