Patent number: 4911259Abstract: A running control method and a running control system for a vehicle to control the engine output according to the effects of slope, wind, and change in vehicle weight, in which a reference traction force is determined as the sum of a mechanism friction, an acceleration force, and an air drag, the difference between an actually measured total traction force an the reference traction force is determined to obtain an environmental effect value. The environmental effect value represents an increase or decrease in traction force with respect to that in a flat, windless road for a standard vehicle weight. A throttle valve or a fuel injection control governer is feedback-controlled according to the environmental effect value, thereby improving the control response.Type: GrantFiled: January 30, 1989Date of Patent: March 27, 1990Assignee: Mitsubishi Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takashi Dogahara, Yoshiaki Danno

Patent number: 4850317Abstract: An intake port device comprises an intake port (9) formed by a straight part (13) and a helical part (15), and a valve (17) disposed adjacent to the inlet of the intake port. In order that intake air flow having a large swirl ratio can be supplied to an engine without being encountered with a large resistance even in a light-loaded condition of the engine, the valve (17) is held in its closed position without causing any sharp decrease in the coefficient of intake air flow when closed. In a modification of the intake port device, the valve (17) holds open the lower half of the intake port 9 in its closed position, so that intake air flow having a large swirl ratio can be supplied without being encounted with a large resistance even when the load of the engine is light. In another modification of the intake port device, the free end of the valve (17) is bent and deformed in the downstream direction of intake air so that the flow of intake air may not be encountered with a large resistance.Type: GrantFiled: December 17, 1987Date of Patent: July 25, 1989Assignee: Mitsubishi Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Takehiko Katsumoto, Yoshiaki Danno, Daisuke Sanbayashi, Takashi Dogahara, Katsuo Akishino, Osamu Hirako, Nobuaki Murakami

Patent number: 4815419Abstract: An engine cooling apparatus separately cools a cylinder head and a cylinder block which are positioned around upper and lower portions of an engine combustion chamber. For increased engine output power, the engine cooling system cools the cylinder head to a relatively low temperature and the cylinder block to a relatively high temperature. The cylinder block includes cylinder liners disposed in an oil jacket which is supplied with oil from an oil circulating system via a pressure reducing valve. Oil in the oil jacket returns through a return path into an oil reservoir in the engine, and air bubbles in the oil jacket are returned to the oil reservoir via an air bubble return passage which develops a pressure difference between its opposite open ends.Type: GrantFiled: October 23, 1987Date of Patent: March 28, 1989Assignees: Mitsubishi Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki Kaisha, Nippon Jidosha Engineering Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Taizo Kitada, Yoshiaki Danno, Mituru Kishimoto, Atsuo Sato, Nobuaki Shimizu, Yoshinari Fukami, Masazi Asada

Patent number: 4594983Abstract: A control apparatus for an internal combustion engine capable of using as a fuel a regular (low-octane) gasoline, a premium (high-octane) gasoline, or a mixture of both type of gasolines. The engine produces knocks when the ignition timing is advanced beyond a reference ignition timing determined as a function of the type of gasoline being used. This ignition timing control apparatus detects the knocks, and provides as an output therefrom a signal according to the occurrence rate of the knocks which essentially indicates the type of gasoline in use. By means of this signal, this ignition timing control apparatus continuously displaces the reference ignition timing in the direction of retard angle by using a proportion factor calculator and an interpolator. At the same time, the displaced reference ignition timing is corrected by the detected knock signals on a real time basis.Type: GrantFiled: January 24, 1985Date of Patent: June 17, 1986Assignees: Mitsubishi Jidosha Kabushiki Kaisha, Mitsubishi Denki Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Akira Takahashi, Yoshiaki Danno, Toshio Iwata, Atsushi Ueda, Takeo Sasaki

Patent number: 4506338Abstract: According to the method of the present invention for judging the state of operation of an intake passage pressure detecting device for an engine, first at the time of starting control the intake passage pressure detecting device is regarded as being in a state of failure, then an initial output from the intake passage pressure detecting device is stored, and in case the difference between this stored initial output and a subsequent output from the intake passage pressure detecting device exceeds a predetermined value, it is judged that the intake passage pressure detecting device is in a state of normal operation. Consequently, the state of operation of the above intake passage pressure detecting device can be judged with high reliability, and the reliability of the entire system can be improved to a large extent.Type: GrantFiled: November 9, 1981Date of Patent: March 19, 1985Assignee: Mitsubishi Jidosha Kogyo Kabushiki KaishaInventors: Yoshiaki Danno, Tatsuro Nakagami
