  • Patent number: 5282500
Abstract: A container filling apparatus makes it possible to discharge liquid stagnating within a filling valve. The filling valve is lowered towards a container being conveyed. Then a liquid passageway gating section is opened by pressing a bell-shaped member of the filling valve against the container, and liquid thus fills the container. The net amount of the contents to fill the container can be adjusted by vertically moving at least one of a filler liquid tank and a stopper member which limits the lower position of an intermediate spring bracket supporting a second elastic body for biasing a valve body upwardly with respect to a loading table on which the containers are supported. In addition, it is possible to open the liquid passageway gating section by lowering the filling valve with an external force. Therefore, liquid stagnating in the passageway of the filling valve can be discharged.

  • Patent number: 4501691
Abstract: A process for treating a radioactive liquid waste is disclosed, in which a radioactive liquid waste containing uranium and .beta.-decay nuclides, daughter nuclides of uranium, is treated by combination of a flocculation method using water glass as pretreatment and a subsequent ion exchange method. An approximately total amount of the uranium and a part of the .beta.-decay nuclides, daughter nuclides of uranium, in the liquid waste are captured by an amorphous silica precipitate formed by addition of the water glass and a remaining part of the .beta.-decay nuclides, daughter nuclides of uranium, is captured thereafter by the ion exchange treatment. The thus captured radioactive materials are respectively eluted from the filtered out precipitate, a radioactive solid waste, and the ion exchanger by acid treatment to be recovered as an acidic solution. Thus, the radioactive materials in the liquid waste are recovered approximately completely, thereby making the radioactivities of a final drain remarkably reduced.

  • Patent number: 4437177
Abstract: A small-sized video or audio reading pickup device in which a light beam generator generates a light beam directed to a focussing device which focuses the light beam into a beam spot on an information carrier. The focussing device is mounted on an upper portion of a cylindrical hollow support disposed in a resiliently supported frame and a beam deflecting mirror is fixedly mounted within the cylindrical hollow support and independently thereof in vertical alignment with the focussing device. A light beam generated by the beam generating device is laterally directed to and deflected off the deflecting mirror and focused via the focussing device onto the information carrier, with the vertical positioning of the cylindrical hollow support being controlled to control the size of the beam spot. Lateral positioning of the light beam on the carrier is also controlled by lateral translation of the frame, and a photo-sensitive detector is arranged to detect light beam intensity reflected from the carrier.

  • Patent number: 4256573
Abstract: This invention relates to biological treatment of waste water using a carrier floatable on water, and more particularly to a novel process for treatment of waste water utilizing a fluidized bed which is formed by supplying waste water in a downflow operation. The process for treatment of waste water of this invention is applicable to both anaerobic and aerobic biological treatment. A good example of the former anaerobic biological treatment to which this invention is applicable is the process wherein the nitrate or nitrite nitrogen which is one of the nitrogen compounds that are at present believed to be one cause of the eutrophication in rivers, lakes, seas, etc. is treated with denitrifying bacteria in an anaerobic condition to be released in the form of nitrogen gas, and the typical of the latter aerobic treatment is the practice in the utilization of the action of the aerobic bacteria which can oxidize organic substances in sewage, industrial waste waters, etc.
