  • Patent number: 5453909
Abstract: An electric double layer capacitor includes a pair of opposing polarized electrodes, a separator, a pair of external electrodes, and an insulating molding case. The pair of opposing polarized electrodes consist of activated carbon. The separator has characteristics which allow the separator to transmit ions but not to transmit electrons, and isolates the polarized electrodes from each other. The separator has an uneven shape for increasing a surface area of the separator. Each of the pair of external electrodes has one terminal electrically connected to a corresponding one of the polarized electrodes. The insulating molding case externally extracts the other terminal of each of the external electrodes to accommodate the polarized electrodes together with an electrolytic solution.

  • Patent number: 5346667
Abstract: A method of manufacturing sintered Al-Si series alloy parts having complex configurations such as scroll shaped parts wherein Al-Si series alloy powder solidified via rapid cooling prepared by adding effective components such as Si, Cu, Mg, Fe, Mn, Zr and Ce to Al is compression molded, the molded body is sintered by heating via an electrical current conduction in a form of a plasma discharge and then the sintered body is worked by pressing, thereby the parts having complex configurations of light weight, high mechanical strength and toughness is manufactured with a simple installation and reduced processing manhours, and with a high efficiency and at a low cost.

  • Patent number: 4761356
Abstract: This invention relates to a grid for a lead storage battery which comprises a network unit (5) formed from a lead alloy sheet (1) of a first alloy layer (2) of a lead-calcium alloy and a second alloy layer (3) of a lead-tin alloy having a higher concentration of tin than the first alloy layer, the first alloy layer (2) and the second alloy layer (3) being exposed at slits of the network unit. The use of such a grid can provide a lead storage battery which has both good maintenance-free characteristics inherent to the lead-calcium alloy and good recovery after overdischarge resulting from the second alloy having a high concentration of tin. Thus, the storage battery is highly reliable.

  • Patent number: 4304270
Abstract: Softening and separation of an active material in flat-type pasted positive plates are prevented by a simple process with an inexpensive material so that the life may be comparable with that of clad type positive plates. Finely divided, corrosion inhibitive, thermoplastic resin powder is sprayed or otherwise applied over a pasted positive plate and heated and melted to form thin porous layers over the major surfaces of the positive plate. According to another aspect of the invention, the same resin powder is melted and bonded within the positive plate so that porous layers may be formed within the plate in addition to the porous layers on the major surfaces.

  • Patent number: 4001040
Abstract: A fuel cell is constructed in such a manner that a porous film which is electrolyte-resistant and inactive to fuel is allowed to adhere to one surface of a fuel electrode and an electrolyte containing hydrazine fuel supplied to the cell and passing through said porous film and fuel electrode reaches the side of an oxidation electrode. In such fuel cell, self-decomposition of fuel due to direct contact with the fuel electrode occurs in a small degree and utilization efficiency of fuel is high. Furthermore, such fuel cell can be operated with an electrolyte containing fuel in a high concentration.
