  • Publication number: 20060184592
Abstract: An information recording medium comprises a data recording area. A lead-in area and a volume space are allocated in the data recording area in advance. The volume space is constructed so as to allow a logical zone for recording at least a volume-file structure and an over-run protection area for preventing an access to an unrecorded area to be alternately allocated in the volume space. The lead-in area and the over-run protection area each include a chain volume management information area for storing chain volume management information. The chain volume management information includes address information of a subsequent logical zone and address information of a subsequent chain volume management information area.

  • Publication number: 20060184727
Abstract: According to a recording method for a conventional rewritable disc, the latest data is recorded by rewriting data in an identical area. In the case of a disc of which the number of times of data rewrite is limited, this causes a problem that a defect block is easily generated. The present invention has an objective of providing an information recording medium, an information recording and reproduction method, and an information recording and reproduction system apparatus, by which data is recorded sequentially from an unallocated area after an entry sector number, and data recording is sequentially repeated from an inner portion to an outer portion.

  • Patent number: 7072256
Abstract: An information recording medium comprises a user area, and a spare area including a replacement area, wherein the replacement area may be used instead of a defective area in the user area. The user area and the spare area include a plurality of sectors. Each of the plurality of sectors includes a user data area for recording user data, and an attribute data area for recording defect replacement allowance attribute data. The defect replacement allowance attribute data indicates whether recording of the user data has been executed in a state that the execution of a defect replacement process is allowed. In the defect replacement process, the defective area in the user area is replaced with the replacement area in the spare area.

  • Patent number: 7061850
Abstract: A main information area 31 capable of recording an information signal and a subsidiary information area 32 for recording subsidiary information that is different from the information signal are divided in one principal plane direction of a substrate, and an information layer for recording the information signal in the main information area 31 is provided also in the subsidiary information area 32, and medium identification information for distinguishing the medium optically is recorded in the information layer of the subsidiary information area 32 without changing the shape of the information layer. As a result, the medium identification information can be recorded in an optical recording medium 1 stably. In particular, the initialization of a phase change type optical recording medium and the recording of the medium identification information can be performed at the same time, so that the production process can be simplified, and the production costs can be reduced.

  • Patent number: 7050701
Abstract: In the case of a conventional data structure of a disk on which data is recorded by a CD-R multisession method, a dedicated command is needed to read the latest file structure recorded during the last session by reading chainedly the first address of the subsequent session recorded in the read-in area of a session, and it is necessary to close the session so as to read data by means of a reproduction-only device. According to the invention, a set of information on management of unrecorded areas and a set of information on management of file structure/file information are recorded as chain-type information (111, 115, . . . ) and are read chainedly in a volume space so as to acquire the latest management information. Open maintenance information (105, 125) is recorded at the start of recording and close maintenance information (107, 126) is recorded at the end of the recording. The information is read chainedly, and thus information on volume is acquired.
