  • Patent number: 6574423
Abstract: An optical disk for recording stereoscopic videos and high-quality video signals and a system for reproducing the videos and signals from the optical disk are made compatible with the conventional video reproducing system. A reproducing device which is used for reproducing stereoscopic videos and high-quality videos obtains stereoscopic video or high-quality videos by reproducing both first and second interleaved blocks on the optical disk in which first and second video signals are alternately recorded on the left and right sides by dividing the first and second video signals into frame groups of one GOP or more and a reproducing device which is not used for reproducing the stereoscopic videos and high-quality videos obtains ordinary videos by only reproducing either the first or second interleaved block by jumping tracks.

  • Patent number: 6574420
Abstract: A method for recording an AV file using an information recording disk in which data is recorded/reproduced by sectors. The recording method includes the steps of: determining whether or not input data is AV data; detecting a defective sector existing in an assigned data recording area; when the input data is AV data while a defective sector is detected in the data recording area, allocating a defective extent including the defective sector; recording AV data in continuous sectors while skipping the defective extent; and allocating an area of continuous sectors where only the AV data is recorded as one AV extent.

  • Patent number: 6564338
Abstract: An information recording medium includes a disk information area; a user area including a plurality of sectors; and a spare area including at least one sector which, when at least one of the plurality of sectors included in the user area is a defective sector, is usable instead of the at least one defective sector. The spare area is located radially inward from the user area. A physical sector number of a sector to which a logical sector number “0” is assigned, among the plurality of sectors included in the user area and the at least one sector included in the spare area, is recorded in the disk information area.

  • Patent number: 6553179
Abstract: A multimedia optical disc includes a lot of blocks each of which stores moving picture data, audio data, sub-picture data, and control information. Each piece of moving picture data, audio data, sub-picture data, and control information in the same block has the same reproduction time limit. Each piece of control information includes a mask flag indicating whether to mask a key interrupt requesting a special reproduction such as fast forward, the key interrupt being generated by the user by pressing a key on a remote controller and the like. The mask flag is effective for the key interrupt generated during the reproduction time limit stored in the control information.

  • Patent number: 6549499
Abstract: In a recording and reproducing apparatus for a disc-shaped recording medium, and a defect substitution method for a disc-shaped recording medium, whether reproduction of recorded data is good is determined by sector unit and not by product code unit, defective sector discrimination is performed by sector unit, and only sectors determined defective are alternately recorded, when using a recording format in which data that is error detection and correction coded with a product code is segmented and recorded to a plurality of sectors.
