  • Patent number: 8942629
Abstract: A communication system and communication method enable various types of near field communication. NFC communication apparatuses have two features in that each can perform communication in two communication modes and that each can perform data transmission at a plurality of transfer rates. The two communication modes consist of a passive mode and an active mode. In the passive mode, between the NFC communication apparatuses, for example, a first NFC communication apparatus transmits data to a second NFC communication apparatus by modulating electromagnetic waves generated by itself, while the second NFC communication apparatus transmits data to the first NFC communication apparatus by performing load modulation on the electromagnetic waves generated by the first NFC communication apparatus. Alternatively, in the active mode, either of the NFC communication apparatuses transmits data by modulating electromagnetic waves generated by itself.

  • Patent number: 8874033
Abstract: The present invention relates to a communication apparatus capable of fully exhibiting capabilities that are inherently possessed by the communication apparatus for performing near field communication, a communication method for use therewith, and a program for use therewith an initiator performs near field communication with a target in accordance with NFCIP-1. For example, for each of predetermined n+1 types of capabilities possessed by the initiator or the target, the initiator generates capsules [0] to [n] containing one or more pieces of information related to a corresponding capability (S61). Next, the initiator generates a command ATR_REQ containing the generated capsules [0] to [n] (S62 to S64). Then, the initiator transmits the command ATR_REQ to the target. The present invention can be applied to, for example, an IC card system.

  • Patent number: 8514688
Abstract: An RF (radio frequency) signal is generated at a first communication device and is modulated. A second RF signal provided to the first communication device from the second communication device is demodulated. The second RF signal is detected. The generating is actuated to initiate an active or a passive mode communication, when the detecting does not detect the second RF signal at a level of a first threshold or more, the active mode including a transmission of modulated data at the first communication device and the second communication device, the passive mode providing load modulated communication from the second communication device to the first communication device. When the first communication device receives an indication to start a communication of the active mode from the second communication device, the demodulating receives data at a level of a second threshold or higher, the second threshold being higher than the first threshold.

  • Patent number: 8515349
Abstract: A communication system includes an initiator that transmits a command via an electromagnetic wave. The communication system also includes a target that transmits a response to the command by load-modulating the electromagnetic wave. The initiator performs a first mode communication to acquire real data. The response is transmitted by the target at a timing of any one of one or more time slots and includes the real data. The initiator has a unit that causes the command to be transmitted with a first value in time slot information when the first mode communication is performed. The target has a unit that recognizes the time slot information included in the command from the initiator. The target also has a unit that causes the response including the real data to be transmitted at a timing of a preset time slot, when the time slot information has the first value.
