  • Patent number: 4942804
Abstract: A piston head has a cavity and a central projection projecting into the cavity. A ceramic insert is cast in a piston body so as to cover a piston head portion defining the cavity except the central projection-and-its adjacent piston head portion. The ceramic insert has an edge defining a hole through which the central projection projects into the ceramic insert. • Patent number: 4899707
Abstract: The invention relates to a cylinder head for an internal combustion engine in which each combustion chamber has a prechamber. A cast metal body of the cylinder head has recesses each of which provides a prechamber, and a hollow and, for example, bell-shaped member of an adequately porous ceramics is cast-inserted in the inner surface defining each recess. Use is made of a ceramics low in thermal expansion coefficient and heat conductivity, such as aluminum titanate or cordierite, and the porosity of the ceramics is limited within the range of from 5 to 20%. The cast-inserted ceramics member can easily be machine-finished and, without any extra treatment, has sufficient strength and durability.

  • Patent number: 4881498
Abstract: A ceramic rocker arm is hollow and formed with two openings for providing communication between an inner hollow place and the outside of the rocker arm. The inner hollow place is communicated with a source of lubricant. The openings are located adjacent surface portions of the rocker arm contacting a cam and a valve so that lubricant is supplied through the inner hollow place and the openings to the joints between the rocker arm and the respective cam and valve. A filler of a synthetic resinous material is filled in the hollow ceramic rocker arm so as to prevent dispersion of small pieces upon breakage of the rocker arm.

A cast metal body of the cylinder head has recesses each of which provides a prechamber, and a hollow and, for example, bell-shaped member of a porous ceramics is cast-inserted in the inner surface defining each recess. Use is made of a ceramics low in thermal expansion coefficient and heat conductivity, such as aluminum titanate or cordierite, and the porosity of the ceramics is 5 to 50%. Because of its porousness the cast-inserted ceramics member is easily machine-finished. After that, for enhancement of strength and durability, the cast-inserted member of the porous ceramics is impregnated with an inorganic refractory material by using either a solution of, for example, sodium silicate or aluminum phosphate or an aqueous suspension of a ceramics powder, or a mixture of the solution and the suspension.

  • Patent number: 4828009
Abstract: A method of forming a complex body of a sintered ceramic material and a metal. A through-hole is provided in the sintered ceramic material before it is cast-embedded in the metal. The through-hole provides for the release of gas to prevent the formation of a cavity between the sintered ceramic material and the metal.

  • Patent number: 4604779
Abstract: A method for producing a cylinder head having a tubular exhaust port liner made of a ceramic material is disclosed. The method comprises providing a covering layer of refractory fibers around the outer circumference of the exhaust port liner, applying a metal cap over each end of the covered exhaust port liner and setting the covered exhaust port liner into a mold. A cylinder head then is cast around the exhaust port liner so that the portions of the metal caps contacting the cylinder head are fused to the cylinder head. The metal caps are bored out to open up the exhaust port after predetermined treatments are performed on the cylinder head.

  • Patent number: 4180538
Abstract: A method of making a ceramic shaped article from an inorganic raw material powder by extrusion molding is disclosed. The method comprises the steps of kneading an inorganic raw material powder with a plasticizer to obtain a kneaded body which is then molded by extrusion into a fluid having a high humidity to obtain a ceramic shaped article having no deformation and strain. The plasticizer is selected from the group consisting of mono-liquid type resin which is a water insoluble synthetic resin dissolved in a water soluble solvent and a hydraulic setting resin mainly consisting of polyurethane isocyanate prepolymer.
