  • Patent number: 5659448
Abstract: A magnetic head supporting mechanism includes a slider fixed to a slider spacer which is in turn fixed to a gimbal via a single area which is smaller than a contact area between the slider spacer and the gimbal so that the variation in the flying height of the slider is reduced and the positioning error due to the positional shifting of the head is also reduced. With this arrangement, it is possible to achieve a high-capacity magnetic disk storage device capable of operating at a high speed.

  • Patent number: 5285257
Abstract: An optic rotation sensing apparatus includes a light source emitting light. The light emitted from the light source is transmitted to a sensing loop which provides a phase difference between opposite-direction light waves in response to a rotation. Return light outputted from the sensing loop is transmitted to a photodetector. A device modulates a phase of light propagating in the sensing loop. Another device depolarizes light propagating in the sensing loop. The invention further controls and processes an output signal representing the output of the photodetector at a phase at which a level of an AM noise component of the output signal is minimized.

  • Patent number: 5136438
Abstract: A magnetic head device has a magnetic head slider by means of which information is recorded in and read from a magnetic recording medium. The magnetic head slider is supported by a supporting structure having an internal cavity, an opening formed in a portion of the structure where the magnetic head slider faces the magnetic recording medium and communicating with the internal cavity, and a gas passage through which the gas introduced into the internal cavity through the opening is discharged to the exterior of the internal cavity. With this arrangement, the pressure acting on the back surface of the magnetic head slider is adjusted to keep the slider afloat, while removing dust suspended in the gas around the recording medium and the supporting structure.

  • Patent number: 5128821
Abstract: A flying head slider has gas bearing rails formed on a surface thereof disposed in opposed relation to a recording medium. The flying head slider flies at a microscopic distance above the recording medium by a pressure produced by a stream of gas resulted from the rotation of the recording medium. Each of the gas bearing rails comprises an inflow portion disposed at an inflow side of the gas stream so as to produce a pressure, an outflow portion disposed at an outflow side of the gas stream so as to produce a pressure, and a connective portion interconnecting the inflow portion and the outflow portion in a common plane.
