    Abstract: A self-adjusting mattress includes a support member, top and bottom foam layers, a movement mechanism and balancing bars. The support member includes a frame of longitudinal and cross bars and mesh panels between the bars. The support member has a middle section that is pivotally connected to upper and lower sections. The upper, middle and lower sections are coplanar in the flat configuration of the mattress. The movement mechanism includes multiple electric motors that move the mattress into an inclined configuration by rotating the upper and lower sections relative to the middle section. The bottom foam layer is molded around the support member. The molded foam flows above, below and through the holes in the mesh panels. The top foam layer is then glued or molded to the top of the bottom foam layer. The balancing bars extend less than half way under the upper section of the support member.

Upper and lower portions of a second side rail are connected by a second hinge that includes a slot. The second portion of the cross rail has a tongue that fits into the slot on the second hinge. The side rails also have support legs with flanges that extend above the side rails when the support legs are extended. The first and second hinges also include flanges that together with the support leg flanges prevent the box spring from sliding towards either side of the bed frame.

    Abstract: Removable massage modules provide a mattress with a massage function. The mattress is compressed and shipped in a packing box with the massage modules separate from the mattress. The end customer then inserts the massage modules. The mattress has a bottom foam layer with cavities whose walls are perpendicular to the outer surface of the foam layer. Each massage module includes a massage motor encased in molded foam. The molded foam is attached to a foam section with cylindrical holes that pass from an outer side to the molded foam and allow hot air to escape the massage motor. The top and bottom sides of each massage module have the shape formed by the walls of the cavities. The massage modules are connected by power cords to a module controller that receives RF signals from a remote control device. The massage modules can also be inserted into a mattress topper.

    Abstract: A zoned foam mattress includes an upper foam layer and a zoned foam layer. The lower side of the upper foam layer is adjacent to the upper side of the zoned foam layer. The zoned foam layer has first, second and third lateral regions with the second region being disposed between the first region and the third region. The first lateral region is disposed at the head end of the mattress. The first and third lateral regions are formed from high-density polyurethane foam (HD foam), whereas the second lateral region is formed from visco-elastic polyurethane foam (memory foam). A person's shoulder can sink farther into the second lateral region than into the first or third lateral regions even if all of the lateral regions have the same indentation load deflection (ILD). By allowing a person's shoulders and hips to sink into memory foam regions, the person's spine is kept straight.

    Abstract: An adjustable mattress that incorporates a movement mechanism and support member inside of the foam mattress includes a fabric covering with a fastener member. The fastener member is used to keep a fitted sheet in place over the adjustable mattress when the mattress is adjusted to an inclined configuration. The fastener member is attached to the fabric covering near the lower edge of the adjustable mattress and is adapted to fasten to a corresponding fastener on the fitted sheet. The fastener member can be a toggle that fits through a loop on the fitted sheet. The fitted sheet also has an elastic band that draws the fitted sheet taut around the adjustable mattress. The lower portion of the fabric covering is made of stretchable fabric that stretches between the lower edge of the adjustable mattress and a balancing bar that supports the adjustable mattress when the adjustable mattress is inclined.

A mattress is then placed on top of the assembled mattress support system. Optionally, metal edge attachments at the head corners of the mattress support system both hold the bed skirt and support a headboard.

The back portion is thinner than the front portion and thicker than the middle portion. The top surface of the body has a concave curve between the front and back portions. The molded foam conforms around a support member disposed within the front portion. Vertical holes pass completely through the middle portion. The body has a flat bottom surface with an indentation located opposite the concave curve of the top surface. The support member increases the firmness of the foam in the front portion, whereas the holes and the indentation decrease the firmness of the body in the middle portion. The user's head is tilted back when the support member lifts the user's neck, and the holes and indentation allow the user's head to sink into the middle portion.

    Abstract: An infant mattress fits safely in a crib without any gap between the mattress and the walls or bars of the crib. A ring of memory foam surrounds the supporting foam layers of the mattress and forms a snug fit with the vertical bars of the crib regardless of whether the dimensions of the particular crib or mattress vary from their standard sizes. The memory foam ring intentionally renders the infant mattress somewhat larger than the inner dimensions of the crib. The ring compresses when the mattress is placed in a crib in which opposing side bars are separated by a distance that is smaller than the mattress width. The ring is formed by pouring foam into a rectangular mold around the supporting foam layers. Where the mattress includes pocket coils on the supporting foam layers, the ring of memory foam conforms to the outer row of pocket coils.

    Abstract: A method of making foam imparts antimicrobial and antiodorant qualities to the foam. Green tea powder is added to the polyol raw materials for making memory foam. The green tea memory foam is used to make pillows, cushions and mattresses. Green tea foam in the top layer of a mattress acts as an antiodorant such that less of the chemical smell of the memory foam is perceived by the user. In addition, the bacteria and mold that would otherwise develop in the moist warmer sleeping environment on memory foam are killed by the green tea additive to the foam. Measurable antimicrobial and antiodorant qualities in the green tea foam are achievable by adding green tea powder constituting less than 2% of the weight of the resulting green tea foam. A neck-support contour pillow is made using memory foam that contains green tea and a green dye.
