  • Patent number: 8587440
Abstract: A method and system for monitoring a driver is disclosed. Firstly, an inner cabin image of a vehicle's cabin is continuously captured. Next, a face detection of a driver for the inner cabin image is performed to obtain a face detection result. Next, the inner cabin image and the face detection result corresponding to the inner cabin image are stored. When the system observes that either the face of the driver is not detected or the face is not shown within a reasonable face region of at least two continuous inner cabin images according to each face detection result, the system outputs a warning signal to alert the driver. The invention determines a driving state of a driver in a cabin with a method of analyzing a position of a face or a head and using an image extractor having large capture range and a low resolution.

  • Patent number: 8552873
Abstract: In a method and system for detecting a driving state of a driver in a vehicle, a face recognition standard corresponding to an environmental condition within the vehicle is established based on a series of image frames generated by capturing consecutively images of the driver upon movement of the vehicle. Upon detection of a variance in the environmental condition during movement of vehicle, the face recognition standard is updated with a corrected face recognition standard corresponding to the environmental condition with the variance. It is determined based on the corrected face recognition standard and the image frames whether the driving state of the driver is a dangerous state, where the driver's face does not face a front windshield of the vehicle or where the driver's face faces the front windshield of the vehicle but one of the driver's eyes is closed.

  • Patent number: 8310355
Abstract: A vehicular collision warning system comprises at least one image capture device capturing images of blind spots, a processing unit receiving the images of blind spots from the image capture device, and at least one alert device. The processing unit identifies at least one barrier from the images and calculates the speed and transverse displacement of the barrier according to the positional change with respect to time. The processing unit presets at least one attention area on the image, estimates whether the barrier will appear in the attention area, sends out an alert-triggering signal to trigger the alert devices to generate sound, light, or pictures to warn the driver early. Cooperating with the speed sensor, brake system and turn light system, the vehicular collision warning system can trigger different alert signals according to the grading of danger to actively warn the driver early.
