At the bottom end of the shaft a slot or indentation is provided suitable for holding a cut-off nut blank so that when the vertical shaft turns 180.degree., the cut-off nut blank will be reversed for punching at the next station without making an arched turn-over path.

    Abstract: A feeding device for a high speed nut former machine is disclosed having a mechanism mounted on the machine and attached to a feeding plate capable of advancing in a linear fashion and returning in a motion in which the feeding plate is removed from a guide path. The feeding plate has a plurality of indentations of a configuration suitable for holding and conveying the nut blanks being formed along the guide path defined by guide plates between successive nut blank forming dies due to the motion of the mechanism attached to the feeding plate by causing the indentations to mesh with the blanks and to convey the blanks forward in a linear fashion, to next leave the feeding path, and to then return to the original position. In this manner, nut blanks are successively fed in an intermittent fashion from one die to the next in a plurality of steps.

    Abstract: A high-speed intermittent rotary mechanism which includes two pairs of meshing driving gears and driven gears properly located respectively on driving and driven shafts with equal center-to-center distances. The driving gears are fixed on the driving shaft and the driven gears, which cooperate with an epicyclic train of gears, are pivotally mounted on the driven shaft by means of bearings. One or both pairs of the abovementioned meshing driving and driven gears are cam-shaped to transmit a smooth, accurate and intermittent rotary motion while in high speed operation.

    Abstract: A knockout mechanism for a high-speed automatic cold heading machine having first and second eccentric shafts. A driving link is mounted on the first eccentric shaft by an antifriction bearing. A rocker arm is pivotally connected to the driving link at a location spaced from the connection of the link to the first shaft. The rocker arm is connected to the second shaft so that the rocker arm continuously oscillates. Knockout means including an ejecting rod are actuated by the rocker arm to eject a blank from a die of the machine. The stroke of the rocker arm is adjusted by adjusting the second eccentric shaft.
