  • Publication number: 20060175150
Abstract: An elevator includes a car follower (22) associated with each of a pair of guide rails (25), and carrying electromagnets (24) which are spaced from electromagnets (26) on an elevator car (28). The electromagnets on the car and car follower create a repulsive force tending to center the car between the car follower electromagnets associated with the two guide rails. Preferably, the car follower electromagnets are interconnected into a single car follower such that they move together.

  • Patent number: 7077244
Abstract: An elevator system (20) includes wireless communicating portions (40, 42) that communicate with each other to provide elevator cab (22) position information within a hoistway (24). In one example, a first communicating portion (40) is supported on the elevator cab (22) that generates a radio frequency trigger signal (58) that is received by a second communicating portion (42) at a selected position along the hoistway (24). The second communicating portion (42) responsively generates an ultrasound signal (64) that is received by the first communicating portion (40). A characteristic of the received locating signal, such as the timing between the trigger signal and the receipt of the locating signal, provides position information regarding the cab within the hoistway.

  • Patent number: 6586410
Abstract: Novel lipid-nucleic acid particulate complexes which are useful for in vitro or in vivo gene transfer are described. The particles can be formed using either detergent dialysis methods or methods which utilize organic solvents. Upon removal of a solubilizing component (i.e., detergent or an organic solvent) the lipid-nucleic acid complexes form particles wherein the nucleic acid is serum-stable and is protected from degradation. The particles thus formed have access to extravascular sites and target cell populations and are suitable for the therapeutic delivery of nucleic acids.

  • Patent number: 5705385
Abstract: Novel, hydrophobic lipid-nucleic acid complexes. The complexes are charge-neutralized and contain the nucleic acid in a non-condensed form. Manipulation of these complexes in either detergent-based or organic solvent-based systems leads to particle formation. Thus, the present invention also provides methods of preparing lipid-nucleic acid particles which are useful for the therapeutic delivery of nucleic acids. The particles are constructed via hydrophobic lipid-nucleic acid intermediates (or complexes). Upon removal of a solubilizing component (i.e., detergent or an organic solvent) the nucleic acid forms a particle with lipids and is protected from degradation. The particles thus formed are suitable for use in intravenous nucleic acid transfer as they are stable in circulation, of a size required for pharmacodynamic behavior resulting in access to extravascular sites and target cell populations.
