  • Patent number: 8204871
Abstract: A file server has an extent cache of pointers to leaf-level indirect blocks containing file mapping metadata. The extent cache improves file access read and write performance by returning a mapping for the data blocks to be read or written without having to iterate through intermediate level indirect blocks of the file. In addition, the extent cache contains pointers to the leaf-level indirect blocks in the file system cache. Therefore, in most cases, the time spent looking up pointers in the extent cache is offset by a reduction in the time that would otherwise be spent in locating the leaf-level indirect blocks in the file system cache. In a preferred implementation, the extent cache has a first least recently used (LRU) list and cache entry allocation for production files, and a second LRU list and cache entry allocation for snapshot copies of the production files.

  • Patent number: 8190850
Abstract: This invention is a system and a method for operating a storage server to provide read or write access to a data in a data network using a new architecture. The method of creating virtual block mapping pointer in response to a request by a client of the storage server to de-duplicate the file system data block or to allow compression of one or more file system data blocks into one or more physical data blocks. Further, the method relocates one or more file system data blocks from one part of the file system address space to another by using one or more virtual block mapping pointers that provides the mapping information for the one or more file system data blocks that are being relocated. The virtual block mapping pointer allows relocating of file system data blocks by same number of metadata operations regardless of number of files sharing the block that are being relocated and the state of those blocks (compressed or not).

  • Publication number: 20090056589
Abstract: Transparent conductors and methods for fabricating transparent conductors are provided. A method for fabricating a transparent conductor comprises providing a stretchable transparent substrate. A dispersion comprising a plurality of conductive elements and a solvent is formed. The dispersion is applied overlying the stretchable transparent substrate. The solvent is at least partially evaporated to form a transparent conductive coating on the stretchable transparent substrate and the substrate and the transparent conductive coating are stretched.

  • Publication number: 20080160384
Abstract: The present disclosure provides for a method of forming, producing or manufacturing functionalized and soluble nanomaterials, most specifically carbon nanotubes on a substrate, which can be used in the production or manufacture of biofuel cells. One embodiment provides for the coupling of biofuel cells with a nanomaterial, wherein the nanomaterial supports catalytic enzymes. Another embodiment provides for a biofuel cell which uses enzymes immobilized on nanomaterials as electrodes. Another embodiment provides for the construction of a biofuel cell, wherein the application of a microwave process, and/or an electrochemical technique, is used to develop a biofuel cell having nanomaterial/enzyme-based electrodes on a substrate. Another embodiment provides for a composite of nanomaterial grown on a substrate, coupled to tethered or bonded enzymes, which makes it possible to fabricate direct electron transfer electrodes. Another embodiment provides for an implanted device.

  • Patent number: 5884777
Abstract: Disclosed is a method for the adsorptive separation by utilizing an improved simulated moving bed. This invention provides an improved formula for the calculation of primary flush flowrate by correspondingly associating the primary flush flowrate with each connection line by introducting a volume factor and carring out sequential control so as to reduce the amount of the flush stream and increase product purity and yield.
