Abstract: A bead wire winding device is provided with a winding guide(s) (3) which is rotated with a molding support body (1), and which approachingly and retreatingly displaces with respect to each side portion of the molding support body (1). A bead wire (W) is supplied to a wire seating portion (11) of the winding guide (3) within a space defined by each winding guide (3) which is in an approached state with respect to a respective side surface of the molding support body (1), and in an enlarged diameter state. The winding guide (3) is constituted by a plurality of radially displacing members (9), which can be enlargingly and reducingly displaced in a radial direction, connected to a boss portion (7) through link members (8). Each of the radially displacing members (9) has a protrusion that forms a wire seating portion (11). A clamping claw (13) is provided on at least one of the radially displacing members (9), and is urged constantly in a closing direction and pinches a tip portion of the bead wire (W).

  • Patent number: 6328836
Abstract: Method and apparatus for producing tires, in which a carcass layer is formed by continuously feeding a carcass cord from a cord passage and applying the carcass cord over an outer peripheral surface of a substantially toroidal core so as to extend in a meridian direction of the core while the core is subjected to an indexing movement in its circumferential direction. The carcass cord is arranged so as to extend linearly from one end to the other end of the core with respect to a meridian direction thereof, and vice versa, under the operation of a feed mechanism which is capable of achieving a reciprocating movement. A turn-up portion of the carcass cord is wound on, and supported by a pin at the end of the core in the meridian direction, and subsequently adhered onto the core by a press head which can be advanced relative to the pin.

  • Patent number: 6113833
Abstract: A segmented core (10) for manufacturing pneumatic tires includes a substantially toroidal core body (11) formed of a plurality of core segments (12) which are arranged in a circumferential direction in tight contact with each other. A sleeve (31) rotatably supporting a first connector member (33) at its one end is inserted into the core body (11) so that the first connector member (33) is engaged with the core body (11) on one side thereof. A second connector member (40) is then detachably connected to the sleeve (31) on its another end, and thereby brought into engagement with the core body (11) on another side thereof. An integral unit is formed by the sleeve (31), the first connector member (33) and the second connector member (40), which ensures that the core segments (12) are maintained firmly and reliably connected to each other during formation and vulcanization of a green tire supported on the core body (11).

  • Patent number: 6085817
Abstract: A pneumatic tire comprises a carcass made from at least one cord array comprised of many arch portions of a cord extending between a pair of bead portions in a meridional direction and arranged over a full circumference of the tire at an equal interval P in a circumferential direction of the tire and many circumferential portions of the cord alternately arranged in the bead portions, each connecting ends of adjacent arch portions to each other in the bead portion and extending substantially in the circumferential direction. In this case, the cord array is arranged at n layers (n is an integer of 2 or more) while offsetting these layers by a distance L obtained by dividing the interval P by n in the circumferential direction. Further, the bead wire reinforcing layer is arranged outward from the overlap region of the circumferential portions in the radial direction so as to sandwich the cord array from both sides thereof.

  • Patent number: 5772836
Abstract: By turning toward the radially outer direction a turned-up region of a tire component by reciprocating turning fingers, and by positioning the reciprocation centre (the base of a short finger part) of the turning finger at the immediate vicinity of the departing point of the tire component from a bead-locking device, the compressing force provided at the turned-up region in the vicinity of the bead is effectively decreased, and therefore the generation of creasing is controlled.

  • Patent number: 5770004
Abstract: A driving apparatus of a tire forming drum in which rotation of left-hand and right-hand bead locking mechanisms and movement of these bead locking mechanisms in directions of approaching and separating from each other can be effected simultaneously. A state of a main shaft and an inner shaft of the driving apparatus of the tire forming drum can be switched between a connected state and a non-connected state by a clutch. The main shaft and the inner shaft are both connected to a differential gear unit. An encoder is fixed to the differential gear unit and can detect the rotational difference between the inner shaft and the main shaft. Connected to the inner shaft are a distance-between-beads changing motor and a distance-between-beads fixing brake. Mounted to the main shaft are a main shaft rotating motor and a disc brake.

  • Patent number: 5405484
Abstract: A tire building drum has a pair of drum sections axially movable along a center shaft which form an internal tire inflation chamber for inflating the carcass of a green tire when mounted between the drum sections. Each of the drum sections has a plurality of bead lock segments controlled by a plurality of straight links moved by an annular piston. The piston is mounted in an annular cylinder surrounded by an annular manifold ring, an annular sealing ring and an annular bladder ring. The annular manifold provides for the distribution of pressurized air to various components of the drum and functions as an air seal for the tire inflation chamber. A plurality of air passages are formed in the manifold ring and connect to a source of pressurized air for supplying the control air from a remote source to an inflation turn-up bladder mounted on each of the drum sections and to a control assembly mounted within each of the drum sections for actuating the bead lock segments.
