  • Patent number: 6000781
Abstract: In a recording apparatus for recording on a recording medium by a plurality of recording heads, a scan unit has a carriage capable of mounting the recording heads at a predetermined interval and causes the recording heads to scan corresponding divided recording areas. A record control unit causes the recording heads to conduct a first record mode to record an area of a first recording width in a direction of scan by shared recording by the recording heads of the corresponding recording areas and a second record mode to record an area of a second recording width smaller than the recording width of the first recording width by causing at least one of the recording heads to record in the corresponding divided recording area when the corresponding divided recording areas are scanned. A distance between two recording apparatus mounted at outermost positions in the arrangement of the recording heads on the carriage is not larger than a difference between the first recording width and the second recording width.

  • Patent number: 5980012
Abstract: This invention relates to an ink jet recording apparatus and a recording method for recording images of high dignity with the amount of ink placed per unit area of a recording medium being always kept constant even if the resolvability when recording is effected changes. When the amount of ink of an ink droplet discharged from a recording head is constant (25 pl), the average number of recorded dots conformity to the resolvability is found on the basis thereof, and the number of recordable dots is found from this average number of dots. The difference between this number of actually recorded dots and the average number of recorded dots is adjusted by reducing the value of recording data in advance.

  • Patent number: 5917519
Abstract: A plurality of thin image data are generated based on desired image data. A single region on a recording medium is scanned a plurality of number of times on the basis of the plurality of thin image data, thereby recording the thin images a plurality of number of times. The scan interval in this case is set to be an interval equal to or longer than a required minimum interval, which does not cause deterioration of image quality due to blurring. Furthermore, the interval is properly changed according to the print duty, environmental condition, or the like.

  • Patent number: 5841451
Abstract: When image formation on an image area corresponding to a recording section of a recording head is completed by executing a plurality of number of times of record scans of the recording head using a plurality of complementary thin-out patterns, scan intervals are gradually increased before execution of pre-ejection (Nos. 29 to 33), and scan intervals are gradually decreased after execution of pre-ejection (Nos. 36 to 40), so that a variation in scan intervals of the plurality of times of record scans for a single image area is limited to fall within a predetermined time range.

  • Patent number: 5831642
Abstract: Image data is thinned out by using thinning patterns having arrays not synchronized with an image data array according to an area gradation method at the same duty, and the resulting thinned image data is divisionally recorded on a predetermined area of a recording medium by using different record areas of a recording head while a scan operation is performed a plurality of number of times. • Patent number: 5825377
Abstract: An ink jet recording apparatus and ink jet recording method record using different kinds of ink each having the same series color and a different density. The jet recording apparatus includes a converting unit for converting an input image density signal into an output image density signal, a binary unit for converting the output image density signal into binary data, an inverting unit for inverting the binary data, and a distributing unit for distributing the binary data inverted and binary data to be inverted to drive data for an ink discharge unit and drive data for another ink discharge unit. Density unevenness and texture which arise from an image process, particularly a binary process, can be prevented. Different kinds of ink, each of which has the same series color and a different density, are respectively scanned so as not to overlap on the same pixel.

  • Patent number: 5701146
Abstract: An ink jet recording apparatus includes a recording head for performing recording by discharging ink by forming a bubble by applying thermal energy to a heat acting portion of an ink holding portion of the recording head. Thermal energy is generated in the recording head and a cap sealingly caps a discharge opening forming surface of the recording head. Ink is sucked from the cap and positive recovery is effected so that 10.sup.4 or more times of preliminary discharges are performed toward the cap which is detached from the recording head, by supplying energy greater than energy at a recording condition by predetermined multiples of a minimum energy E.sub.o required for generating the bubble, and for causing the ink to be sucked in the cap that is open to atmosphere.
