  • Patent number: 9246648
Abstract: Methods and apparatuses are provided for transmitting and receiving information. A User Equipment (UE) receives information for a cyclic shift value and information for an orthogonal sequence transmitted from a Node B. The cyclic shift value is defined per Single Carrier-Frequency Division Multiple Access (SC-FDMA) symbol and the orthogonal sequence is defined per slot. The UE obtains a reference sequence based on the cyclic shift value and the orthogonal sequence. The UE transmits the reference sequence in a SC-FDMA symbol to the Node B. The SC-FDMA symbol is predefined among a plurality of SC-FDMA symbols in a slot of a subframe.

  • Publication number: 20160014662
Abstract: Embodiments of user equipment (UE) and method for handover enhancement using reference signal received quality (RSRQ) in a wireless network are generally described herein. In some embodiments, a UE adaptively selects handover initiation parameters based, at least in part, on a velocity of the UE. The UE may determine an RSRQ of a serving cell and an RSRQ of a target cell and may transmit a measurement report to a serving eNB for handover from the serving cell to the target cell when the target cell RSRQ exceeds the serving cell RSRQ in accordance with the selected handover initiation parameters. In some of these embodiments, the handover initiation parameters may include an offset value, such as an A3offset value, and a time-to-trigger (TTT) that comprise an A3offset-TTT pair.

  • Publication number: 20160014836
Abstract: Examples are disclosed for facilitating dual connectivity for user equipment (UE) in a wireless network. The examples include establishing a backhaul link between base stations serving as primary and secondary cells for separate UE connections to management or gateway entities for the wireless network. The primary base station may provide macro cell coverage for the one or more UEs while the secondary base station may provide small cell coverage. The two base stations may split at least some protocol stack processing for radio bearers associated with the separate UE connections. Control information may be exchanged through the backhaul link to facilitate the split protocol stack processing. Other examples are described and claimed.

  • Publication number: 20160014646
Abstract: Embodiments of the present disclosure are directed toward devices and methods for fast radio link recovery in cellular networks. In one embodiment, the signal strength of the serving cell is compared to the signal strength of a target cell, and a radio link failure (RLF) timer is terminated or shortened based on the comparison. Alternatively, a second shorter timer may be used as opposed to modifying the current timer. In some embodiments, the modification of RLF timers may be triggered by the start of a measurement trigger timer. This may allow a user equipment to more quickly establish a connection with a target cell in situations where radio link failure or handover failure are likely to occur. In some instances, the parameters for terminating or shortening the radio link failure timer, or starting an additional timer, may be provided to the user equipment by a network.

  • Publication number: 20160007319
Abstract: Apparatuses and methods for providing multimedia broadcast multicast service (MBMS) on carriers of a new carrier type (NCT) are described herein. A user equipment (UE) may transmit a message to indicate an interest in receiving MBMS transmissions on a target cell that operates on a first carrier of a first carrier type on which cell-specific reference signals (CRSs) are suppressed at one or more downlink subframes of a downlink frame. The UE may receive, in response to transmitting the message, identification information of a notification cell on which to receive MBMS control information change notification for the target cell. The UE may receive MBMS traffic from the target cell using the MBMS control information received from the notification cell. The UE may receive the MBMS control information on a second carrier of a second carrier type different from the first carrier type.

  • Patent number: 9225449
Abstract: Technology for performing a handover in a heterogeneous wireless network (HetNet) is disclosed. One method comprises receiving, at an anchor serving cell in the HetNet, channel measurement reports made by a user equipment (UE) for a plurality of cells. A transmission point change request can be sent, based on the channel measurements for the UE, from the anchor serving cell to a target transmission point. The target transmission point is located in one of the plurality of cells. A transmission point change indicator is sent from the anchor cell to the UE to indicate a change in TP with which the UE will communicate via an air interface, while maintaining a connection to the anchor serving cell.

  • Publication number: 20150312817
Abstract: Embodiments of UE and methods for measurement of Reference Signal Received Quality (RSRQ) are generally described herein. The UE may be configured to determine an RSRQ of a serving cell and an RSRQ of a target cell based on an indicated RSRQ measurement type. The measurement type may be received as part of a measurement configuration Information Element (IE) that indicates a first or second RSRQ measurement type. For the first RSRQ measurement type, the RSRQ may be determined based on a Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) over common reference signals (CRS). For the second RSRQ measurement type, the RSRQ may be determined based on an RSSI that is based on a received power of one or more Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplexing (OFDM) symbols received at the UE.
