    Abstract: An apparatus for driving a thermal recording head having a plurality of heat-generating elements in alignment wherein energy applied to any one heat-generating element is determined on the basis of a recording energy E.sub.p determined on an assumption that both the heat-generating element and adjacent heat-generating elements are energized and also in accordance with a compensation energy E.sub.r for compensating for an energy shortage at the time of non-energization of adjacent elements in actual recording. The recording energy E.sub.p is determined from a target energy EO required for forming a recording dot, heat storage energy E.sub.s already possessed by the element before a current energization thereof and a correction quantity given by a function of the heat substrate temperature T.sub.h, and E.sub.s is stored and updated for each line recording operation in accordance with a function of E.sub.p. The compensation energy E.sub.r is given by a function of the value T.sub.

    Abstract: A double-hung window has auxiliary vertical frames mounted on respective left and right stiles of inner and outer sliding sash units without providing respective outer peripheries of rectangular stile-rail assemblies of the inner and the outer sliding sash units with frameworks wherein the inner and the outer sliding sash units are respectively constructed so as to be slidably moved up and down freely through the auxiliary vertical frames along inner and outer guide recesses formed, respectively, in the left and right vertical frame members of a window frame, so that the outer surfaces of the glasses attached to inner and outer sliding sashes can be readily cleaned, and that the weight of the inner and the outer sliding sashes can be reduced so as to reduce the resistance to sliding thereof, thereby enabling the inner and the outer sliding sashes to be slidably moved smoothly.

    Abstract: A fuel injection rate control apparatus for a V-engine, formed so that the rational speed of the engine can be prevented from varying when the engine is inclined forward or backward, even if a commonly mass-produced inexpensive governer is used. This control apparatus has a fuel injection pump (1) provided with a governer (2) and mounted on one side portion of a cylinder block, a governer-free fuel injection pump (1') mounted on the other side portion of the cylinder block, and a link mechanism consisting of a connecting shaft (4.sub.1) provided in front of the two fuel injection pumps so that the connecting shaft can be turned freely so as to transmit the movement of a rack rod (3) of the governer-carrying fuel injection pump (1) to a rack rod (3) of the other fuel injection pump (1'), a pair of levers (4.sub.2-1, 4.sub.2-2) fixed to both sides of the connecting shaft so as to project in the opposite directions, and a pair of links (4.sub.3) connecting these levers and two rack rods together.

    Abstract: An automatic lighting system comprises a bypass circuit bypassing a manual lighting switch. During operation in an automatic lighting mode, headlamps and a clearance lamp of the automobile automatically turn on when the engine operation becomes stable upon completion of start-up operation. The stability in operation of the bypass circuit in the automatic lighting mode is increased by the provision of a delay circuit via which a voltage appearing at an alternator driven by the engine is applied to a base of a transistor that is used to close and open the bypass circuit. Closing a cranking motor switch to activate a cranking motor causes the bypass circuit to be inoperable so that the headlamps and clearance lamp will not turn on during engine cranking.

The power supply for the welder includes a rectifying circuit for obtaining a dc voltage from an ac current source, a smoothing circuit for smoothing the dc voltage, a single converting circuit to convert the smoothed dc voltage into an alternating polarity pulse voltage, a transformer for applying this pulse voltage to the upper and lower electrodes and a capacitor connected between the primary side of the transformer and the output side of the converting circuit with a capacitance that produces resonance with the inductance of the transformer primary at the pulse voltage frequency.

    Abstract: In order to permit the simultaneous variation of the illumination of a clock and the illumination of instruments included in an instrument panel of an automotive vehicle or the like, a single illumination control device is connected with the ignition switch and a lighting control switch in a manner that when the lighting switch is on, the voltage applied to the bulbs which illuminate the clock and the instrument panel are simultaneously controlled while the tail lamp bulbs are constantly energized to their normal level when only the ignition switch is on, current is fed to the clock illumination bulb. The resistance inherently provided by the plurality of bulbs used in the instrument panel and tail lamp assemblies prevents illumination of the same under such circumstances.

After the sprung mass has attained its local highest or lowest position, the control amount for altering the damping force of the shock absorber is successively calculated so that the sprung mass actually follows the ideal movement pattern. As a result, the sprung mass in its local lowest or highest position can swiftly returned to the neutral position in a semi-cycle.

    Abstract: An electric current feeding to an electric heating unit designed for dissipating a fog formed on a glass window of a vehicle by its thermal effect. The apparatus has one fuse connected with an ignition switch and two fuses connected with input terminals of an electromagnetic relay having two contacts for connection with a heating unit in parallel. The electromagnetic relay is actuated by the ignition switch through an electric timer activated by a manual defogger switch. An electric current feeding system is provided for protecting the contacts of the electromagnetic relay from a short-circuit by melting or breakage by arranging the same such that the manual defogger switch, timer and relay are connected with the vehicle power source through one of the three fuses, respectively. Thereby the apparatus can be rendered entirely inoperative when any one of three fuses is blown, or the circuit connected therewith is disconnected.

    Abstract: A method for making a cast iron product having a high resistance to both wear and pitting. The method comprises casting a cast iron containing C, Si, Mn, Cu, Ni, Cr and Mo with or without P and S to provide a casting having a local chilled structure having a cementite content of 30 to 50%. The casting is then annealed at a reduced temperature and subsequently subjected to a quenching treatment. The quenching treatment is carried out by heating the casting under a particular condition including heating temperature and time and then quenching it. The product is finally tempered.
