  • Patent number: 4099758
Abstract: An adjustable catch assembly or window lock used with closures such as window sashes having meeting stiles has a cam or rotary crescent rotatably mounted on one of the meeting stiles and a cam keeper secured to the other meeting stile. The cam is rotated into engagement with the cam keeper to retain the closures in closed position. The cam keeper has means for adjusting and fixing the relative distance between a hook or keeper detent of the cam keeper and the stile to which the cam keeper is secured in order to compensate for disengagement or misalignment of the keeper detent or hook from a cam surface of the cam secured to the other meeting stile. The fixing means comprises either of a plurality of equally spaced-apart recesses formed transversely in or an elongated projection formed transversely on the cam keeper, and either of a rib or ribs formed longitudinally on or a plurality of equally spaced-apart grooves formed longitudinally in the keeper-carrying meeting stile.

  • Patent number: 4066507
Abstract: DL-leupeptins have been known to be produced by leupeptins-producing organisms and only L-leupeptins have bioactivity. This invention provides the processes for production of L-leupeptins in high yield and for its extraction without racemization.L-leupeptins may be efficiently produced by inoculating a leupeptins-producing strain of Streptomyces into a medium containing nutrient sources and aerobically cultivating under the condition of pH 5.0 to 7.0. Production of L-leupeptins is markedly increased by adding to the medium each 0.5 to 1.25% (wt/vol) of L-leucine, L-arginine (as hydrochloride), and glycine, and is further increased by adding to the medium 0.05 to 0.3% (wt/vol) of at least one of the yeast extract, casein hydrolyzate, and ribonucleic acids, in addition to the above amino acids. Efficient separation of L-leupeptins of acceptable purity from the cultured broth can be effected by use of a nonionic adsorbent resin, wherein the pH is controlled always to be 7.0 or lower.

  • Patent number: 4027581
Abstract: There is disclosed a ventilator for use with windows, doors, or other building hardware. The ventilator includes an inner plate having air vents and an outer plate spaced apart from the inner plate in the transverse direction of the ventilator and providing an opening displaced from the air vents. Provided between the inner and outer plates are a filter and a partition extending from the inner plate toward the outer plate until it abuts against the filter. The partition is adapted to direct a flow of air from the opening to the air vents at least twice through the filter. The ventilator is prefabricated as a unit and is easily installed within the windows, doors and the like.

  • Patent number: 4014149
Abstract: A paneled door construction comprises a pair of first and second stiles, top and bottom rails connecting the stiles together, a muntin extending vertically between the top and bottom rails, and a pair of block assemblies disposed between the first stile and the muntin, and between the second stile and the muntin, respectively. The block assemblies each include a pair of inner stiles spaced apart horizontally from each other and extending vertically between the top and bottom rails, and alternate blocks and block-parting members sandwiched between the inner stiles. The blocks and block-parting members are attached by screws to the inner stiles by bringing the former into contact with the inner stiles, and then threading said screws into the blocks and the block-parting members through the inner stiles.

  • Patent number: 3991982
Abstract: For connection of a series of balusters to a top rail, each baluster is provided with a pair of jaws extending upwardly from its top end. The top rail has an integral retainer ridge formed lengthwise on its bottom surface. The retainer ridge includes a pair of shoulders having transversely registered pairs of recesses at prescribed longitudinal spacings. A pair of grooves are formed lengthwise in the respective lateral surfaces of the retainer ridge, and another pair of grooves are formed lengthwise in the bottom surface of the top rail on both sides of the retainer ridge. The jaws of each baluster are inserted into the respective grooves in the bottom surface of the top rail via the respective recesses, and the mid-portions of the jaws are then caused to project into the respective grooves in the lateral surfaces of the retainer ridge by pressing operation. The balusters can likewise be connected to a bottom rail.

  • Patent number: 3984955
Abstract: An exterior window unit for covering an opening in a building wall includes a frame sill which is slidable coupled with an elongated attachment plate member to be secured to a top surface of the fixed sill of a normally present window assembly in the building wall. To effect such coupling, the frame sill has a mounting fin having engaging means with a groove formed longitudinally therethrough. The attachment plate member has an engaging member which is complementary in cross-section to and received in the groove in the engaging means. The attachment plate member is thus positionable longitudinally relative to the mounting fin so as to be able to be interposed snugly between the side jambs of the normally present window assembly.

  • Patent number: 3983674
Abstract: In a shutter construction typically installed on the outside of a window and including one or more panel assemblies mounted within an outer frame for horizontal sliding movement into and out of a shutter box, each of the panel assemblies is composed of a supporting frame and a series of aligned elementary panels closely fitted in the supporting frame. The supporting frame consists of top and bottom rails and a pair of stiles, and the stiles are formed wth a tongue and a pair of clamping jaws, respectively, projecting toward each other. Each elementary panel also has a tongue and a pair of clamping jaws along its respective lateral edges which are exactly identical with the tongue and jaws of the stiles. The elementary panels are connected to each other and to the stiles solely by the clamping engagement of the tongues by the respective pairs of jaws.

  • Patent number: 3956854
Abstract: In a sash window or like panel assembly wherein each sash is rollable horizontally over a rail on the sill of a generally rectangular supporting frame, each roller of the sash is rotatably supported by an inverted-U-shaped roller support which is fixedly mounted in a selected position in a downwardly opening channel formed in the bottom horizontal member of the sash. The roller support has, typically, a pair of resilient hooks fashioned by inwardly folding the bottom ends of its opposed side portions, which hooks are engageable with respective overhangs formed on both sides of the rail throughout its full length.
