  • Publication number: 20080240043
Abstract: A system and method for performing a handover of a mobile station (MS) by considering Quality of Service (QoS) in a broadband mobile communication system. The method can include the steps of: receiving information about one or more neighbor base stations and reception strengths for the neighbor base stations from a Serving Radio Access System (RAS) currently communicating with the MS; extracting a value of a specific field from the received information about the neighbor base stations; combining the extracted value of the specific field with the reception strengths to thereby obtain combined values, and selecting a maximum value among the combined values; and transmitting a handover (handoff) request message to a base station corresponding to the selected maximum value. The system includes an MS that analyzes information about neighbor stations received in a Mobile Neighbor Base-station Advertisement (MOB_NBR_ADV) message to select a target RAS.

  • Patent number: 7428215
Abstract: Disclosed is a device for filtering out a null packet in a data stream for example an MPEG-2 TS (Transport Stream) to avoid bandwidth waste when it is transmitted to a backbone network. The device includes a plurality of receiving interfaces, a filter unit, and a controller. The receiving interfaces receive parallel data, such as DVB-ASI (Digital Video Broadcasting-Asynchronous Serial Interface) inputs as channel-by-channel MPEG-2 data. The filter unit counts the respective numbers of data packets and non-data packets of the data input from the receiving interfaces and filters a null packet in the data. A network transmission unit transmits the filtered data to a backbone network. The controller calculates a bit rate based on both of the count numbers received from the filter unit.

  • Patent number: 7418204
Abstract: A passive optical network system is disclosed that simultaneously provides both broadcasting service and data service. The passive optical network (PON) amplifies the optical signals for the broadcasting service in an optical amplifier media of the local office by pumping optical signals generated from the central office and provides the optical signals for the broadcasting service to the subscriber terminals. Therefore, the present invention can simultaneously provide broadcasting service and data service for more subscribers without reducing the number of subscribers to the PON. Also, the present invention uses a plurality of optical sources for the data service and the broadcasting service and receives the optical signals generated from the optical sources by using a plurality of optical receivers in the subscriber terminals, and thus can provide a greater amount and variety of data services and broadcasting services.

  • Publication number: 20080181310
Abstract: A motion search method and apparatus for minimizing an off-chip memory access to reduce cycles for predicting a motion vector. A sum of absolute differences (SAD) calculation processing is performed, while an off-chip memory is accessed using Direct Memory Access (DMA). A position of a current macro block is determined if a frame is input and the length of a horizontal search line is set according to adjacent motion vectors and predetermined external parameters. The SADs are calculated by calculating medians of the adjacent motion vectors as a predictive motion vector, setting a vertical direction value of the predictive motion vector as an initial search line, and sequentially searching at least one horizontal search line, and determining a position of a minimum SAD from the at least one horizontal search line. The minimum SAD position is selected as a final motion vector.

  • Patent number: 7400652
Abstract: In an MPEG-2 decoding system, a transport decoder decodes a transport packet corresponding to a Program Identification (PID) from an input transport stream, and retrieves a Program Association Table/Program Map Table PAT/PMT) from the stream when it is requested to retrieve Program Specific lnformation (PSI). A pre-decoder checks PSI stored in a PSI memory in response to a request to change to a desired channnel, reads PIDs of transport packets for a Packetized Elementary Stream (PES) of a program corresponding to the desired channel from the PSI memory to provide it to the transport decoder, receives the PAT/PMT and updates the contents of the memory using the PAT/PMT. After decoding, PSI previously extracted therefrom is stored in the memory. PIDs of transport packets for the PES of desired program are obtained referring to the stored PSI, and transport packets having the PIDs are retrieved and decoded.

  • Patent number: 7388888
Abstract: A broadcast/communication convergence system and method for transmitting and receiving Ethernet data by an optical network unit (ONU) performing a time division multiplexing (TDM) operation and switching by a network switch. A resultant signal is transmitted to a corresponding subscriber set-top box (SSTB), and data from the SSTB is provided to the network switch. A length of an Ethernet data frame is provided from the network switch, and an encapsulation generates and inserts data length information into an Ethernet data frame, for transmission to the SSTB. The SSTB carries out a TDM operation for a signal transmitted from the ONU, and separates the signal into Ethernet and broadcast data. A framing bit is detected based on a result of the separated signals, the length information is detected. A preamble bit and a start-of-field delimiter (SFD) are inserted into the recognized Ethernet data to recover the original Ethernet data.
