  • Patent number: 7299287
Abstract: A secure network outlet for supporting IP device address assigning functionality. A network access request is received from an electronic device communicatively coupled to intelligent hardware. In one embodiment, a device address request is transmitted to a network server. A first device address is received at the intelligent hardware from the network server. The intelligent hardware then assigns a second device address to the electronic device. In another embodiment, the intelligent hardware has a pre-assigned first device address and assigns a second device address to the electronic device, such that the intelligent hardware eliminates the need for a separate device address assigning server. The present invention reduces the consumption of global device addresses within a network, and also provides protection to electronic devices by hiding their device addresses from the external network.

  • Publication number: 20060166218
Abstract: An array is formed with a protective cover on a substrate. The protective cover is patterned to produce an array of openings to the substrate. Desired material is deposited on the substrate through the openings. The protective cover may then be removed. In one embodiment, the protective cover is a conformal polymer, such as di-para-xylylene. It may be removed by mechanical peeling. The material may be biological material such as DNA. The protective cover may be used to prevent non-specific hybridization in inter-spot regions by performing hybridization with the cover still in place. Hybridization that occurs in such regions between the spots may be removed with removal of the protective cover.

  • Patent number: 5568357
Abstract: Impacts to the case of a portable electronic unit including a display are dissipated by a plurality of thermoplastic elastomeric damping elements which isolate an internal frame unit, carrying the display and associated electronic components, from contact with the enclosure. Each damping element is provided with corresponding positioning structures within the case to ensure that the frame unit "floats" on protective shock absorbing material to provide three-dimensional support and damping of impacts incident from any direction. Damping elements may take the form of small caps of elastomeric material at spaced positions around the periphery of the frame unit. Electronic connections to the display screen are accomplished using flexible connectors to maintain the mechanical isolation of the display screen from the rest of the unit.
