    Abstract: An apparatus and method determines neighbor Base Station (BS) information in a wireless communication system where a macro cell and a Femto cell coexist. The method includes, when a preamble scanning duration arrives, acquiring preamble information on at least one neighbor BS through preamble scanning. It is determined whether to scan a header for at least one neighbor BS among neighbor BSs for which the preamble information are acquired, in consideration of at least one of the acquisition or non-acquisition of new preamble information through the preamble scanning and a variation of an environment of a preamble acquired through the preamble scanning. And, in case that it is determined to scan the header, a header for a corresponding neighbor BS is scanned and header information of the neighbor BS is acquired.

    Abstract: Detection of a signal in a receiver of a MIMO communication system includes a transmitter for signals transmission via K antennas and a receiver for receiving the signals via L reception antennas, such that L is greater than or equal to K and the system has a K×L-dimensional channel matrix, by converting the channel matrix into a plurality of matrixes having an upper triangle structure; dividing each of the matrixes into at least two sub-matrixes having a dimension lower than that of the channel matrix; detecting transmission symbols from corresponding antennas through decoding of a) lowest sub-matrix signal received which sub-matrix is constituted of components having only the channel characteristics of two antennas among the two sub-matrixes; and b) an upper sub-matrix signal using the transmission symbols; and outputting all of the detected transmission symbols, if transmission symbols by a highest sub-matrix among at least two sub-matrixes are detected.

    Abstract: A method for mitigating interference at a small base station in a hierarchical cell structure is provided. In the method, the small base station checks a sub-frame allocated to macro user equipment by using a downlink signal received from a macro base station when an interference candidate user equipment list is received. The interference candidate user equipment list contains information on the macro user equipment adjacent to a femto cell controlled by the small base station. Then the small base station allocates other sub-frame to femto user equipment located in the femto cell by avoiding the sub-frame allocated to the macro user equipment.

    Abstract: A system and method are provided for controlling a data rate in a communication system. A transmitter sets threshold values for classifying Modulation and Coding Scheme (MCS) levels. When receiving information about an MCS level desired to be used in the receiver, the transmitter sets an MCS level to be actually used in the receiver and transmits information about the set MCS level to the receiver. When detecting that the information is to be transmitted to the transmitter, the receiver computes instantaneous link capacity using a channel estimation result, sets an MCS level mapped to the instantaneous link capacity, and transmits information about the set MCS level to the transmitter. The receiver receives the information about the MCS level to be actually used from the transmitter.

    Abstract: Disclosed is a cellular-based wireless communication system, and more particularly a method for allocating resources for data transmission in a cellular-based wireless communication system employing a multicarrier scheme. Frequency resources are divided into time slots defined by one frame and the divided time slots are allocated to an uplink and the downlink. During a predetermined time period, the frequency resources are allocated as resources for transmitting sync preambles. During a next predetermined time period, the frequency resources are allocated in such a manner that the frequency resources for sectors are successively and repeatedly used as resources for transmitting broadcasting messages on a sector-by-sector basis. In the remaining time slots, except the time slots for transmitting the preambles and the broadcasting messages, the frequency resources are allocated as resources for transmitting channel estimation midambles for dynamic channel allocation.

    Abstract: An apparatus and method for removing interference in a transmitting end of a multi-antenna system are provided. The method includes receiving channel information for all Receive (Rx) antennas; calculating a beam-forming matrix that maximizes a Signal-to-Interference plus Noise Ratio (SINR) for each Rx antenna by using the received channel information; calculating an integer value which is in proportion to an interference signal for each Rx antenna by using the received channel information and the calculated beam-forming matrix, and performing Dirty Paper Coding (DPC) on a Transmit (Tx) signal by using the calculated integer value; and performing beam-forming by multiplying the Tx signal that has undergone the DPC by the calculated beam-forming matrix. Accordingly, a highest data rate for each user and a highest diversity can be obtained.

    Abstract: A communication system is provided which includes different kinds of base stations such as a macro base station and a femto base station. This system may execute a method for controlling unfavorably occurring interference due to such different kinds of base stations. In the method, the femto base station sends a femtocell interference indication (FII) report to the resource allocation control unit when user equipment is connected to the femto base station. The FII report contains a request for the allocation of resources to avoid interference. Then the resource allocation control unit establishes a femto interference coordination (FIC) zone according to the received FII report. The FIC zone indicates a particular region used to define resources allocated to the femto base station. The resource allocation control unit may be the macro base station or a self-organizing network (SON) server.
