  • Patent number: 9319896
Abstract: A method of channel estimation enhancement is provided. In a wireless communications system, a transmitting device transmits a long preamble frame comprising a first training field, a signal field, and a second training field. The signal field has a beam-change indicator bit indicates whether there is beam change between the first training field and the second training field. A receiving device receives the long preamble frame, performs a first channel estimation based on the first training field, and performs a second channel estimation based on the second training field. If the beam-change indicator bit indicates negative beam change, then the receiving device performs channel estimation enhancement by combining the first channel estimation and the second channel estimation. As a result, channel estimation performance is improved.

  • Publication number: 20160073220
Abstract: A method of fast link adaptation for Bluetooth long-range wireless networks is provided. A novel rate indication (RI) field is incorporated in a data packet to enable auto detection of rate adaptation at the receiver side. The data packet comprises a preamble, a first packet portion including the RI field, and a second packet portion including the PDU. The first packet portion is encoded with a first rate while the second packet portion is encoded with a second rate indicated by the RI field. The transmitting device raise/lower the encoding rate when the link quality is good/poor. The receiving device can provide recommended rate or link quality feedback information via an LMP message to help the transmitting device making rate adaptation decision. The transmitter can unilaterally decide the data rate for the second packet portion without receiver recommendation.

  • Publication number: 20160033614
Abstract: A method of direction finding (DF) positioning involving main lobe and grating lobe identification in a wireless communication network is proposed. A receiver performs DF algorithm on radio signals associated with multiple antennas over a first channel frequency and estimates a first set of DF solutions. The receiver performs DF algorithm on radio signals associated with multiple antennas over a second channel frequency and estimates a second set of DF solutions. The receiver then identifies the correct DF solution (e.g., the main lobe direction) by comparing the first set of DF solutions and the second set of DF solutions.

  • Publication number: 20160020814
Abstract: A method of closed-loop antenna tuning (CLAT) search strategy based on maximum Relative Transducer Gain (RTG) is proposed. A search region that account for TX input mismatch and forward voltage gain is pre-computed. The search region that is independent of antenna load can be pre-computed to reduce the computation complexity. The Maximum RTG is searched by estimating antenna S-parameters corresponding to a good load match. The search is conducted between the peak forward voltage gain and the best load match. Global optimal with reasonable RTG can be found with limited number of iterations. The transmitter search region can further be constrained by the receiver path mismatching.

A validating device determines whether the first signal is a valid direct sequence spread spectrum signal and based on whether the first signal is a valid direct sequence spread spectrum signal, generates a third signal. An assessment device: determines whether the demodulated data includes a predetermined header, where the predetermined header includes a predetermined sequence; determines whether the channel is busy based on the second signal, the third signal, and whether the demodulated data includes the predetermined header with the predetermined sequence; and generates a channel signal indicating whether the channel is busy. A transmitter, based on the channel signal, transmits a fourth signal on the channel.

  • Publication number: 20150099538
Abstract: A method of indoor positioning using Fine Timing Measurement (FTM) protocol with multi-antenna access point (AP) is proposed. In a wireless local area network, an AP has multiple antennas that are strategically located in different physical locations. The AP is used to exchange FTM frames with a wireless station for timing measurement of the FTM frames via its multiple antennas independently. The timing measurement result (e.g., timestamps of transmitting and receiving FTM frames) is then used to determine an absolute location of the station. A simplified Indoor Location operation with simplified deployment is achieved.

  • Patent number: 8902921
Abstract: The present invention proposes methods for facilitating and improving the performance of MU-MIMO transmission in wireless communication systems. Each user within a MU group inserts an inter-user interference indication field in its acknowledgement packet. The inter-user interference indication field includes signal-to-interference-noise-ratio (SINR) and interference source information. The MU-MIMO transmitter extracts inter-user interference indication feedback and improves subsequent MU-MIMO transmission. Feedback of the inter-user interference information such as SINR and interference source allows efficient link adaptation, smarter user selection, channel re-sounding selection, and fine-tuning of precoding matrix.

  • Patent number: 8897706
Abstract: Different scan modes are provided for Bluetooth devices. In at least some embodiments, a narrowband scanning mode looks for signal energy on individual transmission frequencies at a time. By looking for signal energy rather than decoding transmitted packets, at least some of the components in a Bluetooth device can remain in an idle or rest state. A midband scanning mode looks for signal energy across multiple different frequencies at a time. Again, by looking for signal energy across multiple different frequencies rather than decoding transmitted packets, at least some of the components in a Bluetooth device can remain in an idle or rest state. A wideband scanning mode looks for signal energies across all relevant frequencies at a time. At least some embodiments enable a Bluetooth device to switch between scanning modes.
