    Abstract: According to one embodiment, a communication apparatus includes a first storage, a decision unit and a first processing unit. The first storage stores a plurality of first device type identifiers and a plurality of first structured document code grammars in association with each other. The decision unit decides a device type of a communication object. The first processing unit selects, from the first storage, a second structured document code grammar that corresponds to a second device type identifier of the device type, and performs at least one of encoding a structured document and decoding a received structured document code, by using the second structured document code grammar.

A reading unit sequentially reads input data corresponding to the variable content as many as the number of times the body portion is repeated. A head portion encoder generates an EXI bit string corresponding to the head portion. A body portion encoder generates an EXI bit string corresponding to the body portion in which the variable is replaced with the input data each time input data is read by the reading unit. A tail portion encoder generates an EXI bit string corresponding to the tail portion. An output unit outputs an EXI stream including the EXI bit strings.

The test data generating unit is configured to generate test data in which all combinations of state transitions are expressed in bits in accordance with an encoding rule. The error rule generating unit is configured to add an error rule to the encoding rule. The determined value generating unit is configured to generate a determined value indicating whether a transition is normal. The verifying unit is configured to determine that a decoding device is not normal when the determined value and an output determined value resulting from inputting the test data to the decoding device are different.

If the updated stack does not indicates the point, a function setting unit sets a skip function for skipping a corresponding value in an EXI stream, otherwise, sets a read function for reading and providing the corresponding value to a corresponding variable. A composer generates an EXI decoder including skip and read functions set for individual grammars.
